45s
“And the problem with that is what Jesus says that inevitably our heart follows the things that we treasure. Listen. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. And that's a problem if that's true because Jesus has been teaching all throughout the sermon on the mount. He's like, I want your heart. What matters is your heart because the heart is what is the wellspring of life. Your actions come from your heart. You can clean it up on the outside, but if your heart's sick and dirty, eventually, the things that are gonna come up on the outside will be the same. Jesus saying, I want your heart, but if your treasures have your heart, then Jesus can't have it.”

“For saying, for the rest of you, if you trusted Christ for salvation, then it is an ongoing, it's a daily because it's a war that rages inside of us that we are always that these treasures are coming at us and we wanna we wanna find our joy in these things that that move us away from finding our hope and our joy in Christ. Right? So it's a daily taking of our cross and following him, repenting and turning to trust turning to trust him rather than from the temporary treasures. I wanna close with this. Because Jesus is not saying Jesus is not saying give up these things just to make it make your life miserable. He's saying, give up these things because he's the treasure that's worthy. That Jesus is worthy of our heart's affection and our eyes' attention and our lives' devotion. He's worthy of it. He's the only thing worthy of it.”

“He's graciously warning us against it. To say, listen, these treasures may make your heart glad for a moment. But they'll they'll gladly take over and become your master. They're more powerful than than you think they are. They'll take more time and attention and energy and focus and love and resources than you think that they will and you'll organize them your life around them and they'll have your heart, and ultimately, those things that you had to have that you thought was going to bring you pleasure and safety and joy are gonna destroy you. That's why Jesus graciously says, stop giving so much time and energy to having treasures on earth that are not gonna last.”
56s
“Stop with this with pursuing things that are never gonna satisfy. What we have to realize is because of sin is that we pursue those things and and and because of sin, there's this treasure war that's raging within our hearts. That we're always looking for looking for things that that to put our heart's affection on and to our eyes attention on and to submit our lives to. It's because of sin that that god and this it's because of sin that these good desires that god has placed in our hearts to find satisfaction in him has been distorted, and now we look to creation and created things rather than the creator to satisfy our hearts. So Jesus says, stop. Stop treasuring up yourself or treasuring up treasures on Earth.”
