Transforming Workplaces | God At Work Series

God owns every single thing, and that changes how believers think about work, business, money, staff, and success. The will of God cannot be treated as something added onto personal plans after the fact. God orders the steps of His children, and the Spirit leads them, not intellect, feelings, appearances, money, fame, or fortune. Prayer therefore becomes ongoing communication with God, where hearing His voice matters just as much as bringing requests to Him.

The workplace becomes a place for God’s will to be done. God gives each person particular giftings, wiring, experience, and purpose, then calls that person to refine the gift through study, counsel, coaching, prayer, and obedience. The fullness of joy comes through finding that God-given purpose and working unto the Lord rather than unto men. The Holy Spirit leads into all truth, including truth needed for construction projects, patient care, leadership, staffing, service, and difficult decisions.

Excellence becomes part of Christlike character. A believer who brings the anointing into the workplace should bring creativity, light, peace, integrity, and a standard that goes above and beyond. An orthodontic office can become a “God zone” when prayer, love, wisdom, and excellent service are infused into its daily operation. A building can be dedicated to God, with Scripture beneath its foundation and above its doors, because every sphere belongs to Him and can be captured for His glory.

Integrity cannot be balanced against profitability. A good name is rather to be chosen, because cheating, bribing, lying, stealing, and cutting corners reveal a deeper refusal to trust God as provider. God does not need unrighteous gain in order to build His kingdom. Stewardship asks a different question: “Lord, why did You bring this money under my care?” God blesses His people to enjoy His provision, but He also looks for surrendered people who will be willing and obedient when He gives an assignment.

Workplace evangelism begins with relationship and good work. A late, careless, unreliable employee has little credibility when speaking about God, but excellence creates value that opens hearts and doors. God’s people must not take off the cloak of Christianity for seventy percent of waking life, then put it back on for church. Romans 12 calls for transformed thinking, so that believers can know and carry out God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will in every sphere of society.
