Transforming Trials into Sacred Moments with Jesus
Summary
In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments that we label as sacred. These are times when we feel the profound presence of Jesus, transforming our lives in deep and meaningful ways. While we typically associate sacred moments with joyous occasions like the birth of a child or a wedding, it's crucial to recognize that trials and tribulations can also be sacred. The presence of Jesus in these challenging times is what makes them sacred, offering us strength, encouragement, and new life.
In today's world, we are often distracted by technology and the busyness of life, which can prevent us from experiencing the presence of Jesus. This lack of presence can hinder our ability to recognize sacred moments. As believers, we must strive to be present with Jesus, allowing His presence to transform our trials into sacred experiences. This is the essence of our current series, "Rise: The Road to New Life," where we explore how Jesus' journey can guide us to experience new life every day.
One of the most profound examples of a sacred moment in Jesus' life was the Last Supper. Despite knowing the betrayal and suffering that awaited Him, Jesus chose to be present with His disciples, sharing in their community and expressing vulnerability. He demonstrated selflessness by washing the feet of His friends, teaching us that sacred moments are not about personal comfort but about experiencing new life through His presence.
When we face trials, our response can either make or break the sacredness of the moment. Instead of isolating ourselves or relying solely on our strength, we should lean into Jesus and our community. By being honest about our struggles and seeking His presence, we can transform our trials into sacred moments where God meets us with new life, strength, and grace.
Ultimately, sacred moments are opportunities for God to create something new within us. They remind us that even in pain and suffering, Jesus is with us, offering redemption and new beginnings. As we navigate our own sacred moments, let us trust that God is still writing our story, and that through His presence, we can experience the transformative power of His love.

Quotes
Sacred moments are when we get to experience the presence of Jesus in very deep and transformative ways. You know, we tend to define sacred moments as kind of like these big, beautiful, like lovely kind of life-changing moments, right? Think of the birth of a child, right? Think of a wedding, you get married, right? A new job that is just beautiful, amazing. It gives you life. You know, maybe even a new building that we get to call our church home, right? We look at those as sacred moments. [00:05:46] (33 seconds)
But did you know that the trials of life can actually also be sacred, can't they? It can actually be a sacred moment when you experience loss of life of a loved one. It can be a sacred moment when you have a miscarriage or you get that diagnosis or maybe even during the betrayal of a friendship where you go through a divorce with your spouse. [00:06:27] (24 seconds)
Even these moments can be sacred moments because it's his presence in the moment that actually makes the moment sacred, yeah? I'll say that again. Again, it's his presence with us in all of the moments that actually make the moments sacred. Because it's in his presence, guys, that we receive his strength over us, that we, that he encourages us. [00:06:51] (27 seconds)
It's in his presence that we actually get to experience new life in him, right? And it's his presence. Honestly, guys, presence, the idea of presence is one of the things that we lack the most in our culture and in our lives today. I mean, just think about it, right? With cell phones and social media, 24-hour news cycles, right? Always having our faces up in our screens, right? [00:07:21] (27 seconds)
And when we deny ourselves of experiencing his presence, we actually deny ourselves the opportunity to fully experience what we call sacred moments in our lives. Or maybe we just simply don't experience these sacred moments as sacred moments, yeah? And that's what this series that we're going through is all about. We're calling the series Rise. [00:08:33] (26 seconds)
Because here's the thing, we're all seeking new life in some way, in one way or another, we're all seeking new life. But how did Jesus experience new life and how can we experience it through Him, right? As we follow Him, as we kind of pattern our lives after Him. And so today, what we want to look at is the presence of Jesus in sacred moments. [00:09:14] (22 seconds)
And we're going to look at how Jesus was present in one of His most beautiful and one of His last sacred moments. And we're going to look at it to help us understand how we can be present in ours and ultimately experience new life in Him. Because it's His presence in the moment that makes all moments sacred. [00:09:37] (22 seconds)
But ultimately, guys, it's actually our response to those moments that kind of makes or breaks them, yeah? Specifically the negative ones. Like we tend to recognize the sacredness of those beautiful, positive moments. Why? Because they line up with what our expectation is of what God should be doing. [00:10:04] (21 seconds)
Like for many of us, when the trial comes, man, we just disconnect. We disconnect. We just kind of put our hands up. We walk away, right? We pull away from community. We stop coming to church, right? If you're in a huddle, you stop going to huddle. We disconnect because the trial is coming at us and we don't know how to process it. [00:11:39] (19 seconds)
And what happens is in these moments, we miss the sacredness of these moments because we fall under the weight of them, right? And we don't recognize the presence of Jesus. The trial comes and it just pushes down on us. And instead of leaning into Jesus, who's trying to push us back up, right? We rely on ourselves. We disconnect from the body of Christ where the strength comes from. [00:12:33] (22 seconds)
Sacred moments are where we experience his presence with us. Sacred moments are not moments where we go off and isolate by ourselves and just try to power through, where we disconnect from our community, where we disconnect even from our faith. Sacred moments are where we experience the presence of Jesus in the midst of them. [00:26:15] (22 seconds)
Because when we face sacred moments with Jesus, we can trust that God is still writing our story. He's not done. Just because the moment is hard, just because the moment is painful, it can still be sacred because Jesus is with us to strengthen us in it, right? Sacred moments in our lives, no matter how painful they are, these can be places where God creates something new in us. [00:30:56] (29 seconds)
