Transforming Thoughts: Overcoming Negativity Through Faith
Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound impact of our thoughts on our lives and the importance of breaking free from negative thinking patterns. We began by acknowledging the pervasive negativity in the world and how it affects us, especially our children. As Christians, we are called to lead by example, demonstrating a mindset governed by the Spirit, which brings life and peace, as opposed to one governed by the flesh, which leads to death. Our thoughts have incredible power, but through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, we have been given the power to overcome negativity.
We delved into the concept of self-talk and how it shapes our reality. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us that our lives are shaped by our thoughts, and we must be vigilant about what we allow to occupy our minds. Negative self-talk can trap us in a cycle of despair, but by focusing on God's promises and His Word, we can transform our thinking. We discussed the importance of memorizing scripture and meditating on it, allowing it to nourish our souls and guide us through life's challenges.
We also examined four common negative thinking patterns: relational cynicism, negative filtering, absolute thinking, and blaming. Each of these can be overcome by aligning our thoughts with God's truth and embracing a mindset of love, forgiveness, and gratitude. We were reminded of David's example in 1 Samuel 30, where he found strength in the Lord during his darkest hour. By following his lead, we can find hope and resilience in God's promises.
Finally, we were encouraged to engage in a "negative fast," abstaining from the negative influences of media and focusing instead on the uplifting Word of God. By doing so, we can break free from the negative loop and live victoriously, filled with the joy and peace that come from a mind governed by the Spirit.

Our thoughts have a profound impact on our lives, shaping our actions, attitudes, and ultimately our destiny. In a world filled with negativity, it is crucial to focus on God's promises and His Word to transform our thinking and break free from negativity. By doing so, we align our minds with the Spirit, which brings life and peace, rather than being governed by the flesh, which leads to death. [06:13]
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV): "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."

Day 2: The Power of Self-Talk and Scripture
The words we speak to ourselves have a significant impact on our reality. Negative self-talk can trap us in a cycle of despair, but by memorizing and meditating on scripture, we can nourish our souls and guide our actions. This practice helps us align our thoughts with God's truth and overcome negative self-talk. By focusing on God's promises, we can transform our thinking and break free from negativity. [09:25]

Day 3: Overcoming Negative Thinking Patterns
Relational cynicism, negative filtering, absolute thinking, and blaming are common negative thinking patterns that can hinder our spiritual growth. By embracing a mindset of love, forgiveness, and gratitude, we can overcome these patterns and align our thoughts with God's truth. David's example in 1 Samuel 30 shows us how to find strength in the Lord during our darkest hours, reminding us that we can find hope and resilience in God's promises. [23:31]
Colossians 3:2 (ESV): "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

In times of distress, like David in 1 Samuel 30, we can find strength in the Lord. By focusing on God's promises and seeking His guidance, we can navigate life's challenges with hope and resilience. David's example of resilience teaches us to rely on God's strength and promises, even in our darkest moments. By doing so, we can overcome negativity and live victoriously, filled with the joy and peace that come from a mind governed by the Spirit. [31:40]
2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
Reflection: In what area of your life do you need to find strength in God today, and how can you seek His guidance and promises to navigate this challenge?
Day 5: Engaging in a Negative Fast
Abstaining from negative influences in media and focusing on the uplifting Word of God can help us break free from the negative loop. By doing so, we can live victoriously, filled with the joy and peace that come from a mind governed by the Spirit. Engaging in a "negative fast" allows us to focus on God's truth and promises, transforming our thinking and aligning our minds with the Spirit. [49:23]
Philippians 4:8 (ESV): "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Quotes
"Gather the riches of God's promises. Nobody can take away from you those texts from the Bible which you have learned by your heart." And how about you? Have you learned scriptures? Do you have scriptures in your heart? You should. [00:02:57]
Be careful how you think. Your life is shaped by your thoughts. You might want to write down some of these passages, some of these verses. Again, this is in Proverbs 4:23. Be careful how you think your life is shaped by your thoughts. [00:07:23]
Your thoughts have incredible power, but God has given you incredible power over your thoughts through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit that dwells in you, the believer. Your thoughts are moving you in the direction of those thoughts, but God gives you the power to overcome those thoughts, especially the negative thoughts. [00:11:46]
The mind governed by the flesh is death. But the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. If you're hurting, you're broken, discouraged, depressed, upset, you're down spiritually, could it be that your mind is set on? Is that a negative? Is that a negative? [00:14:13]
Negative events tend to stick in our brains more than positive ones. To prove this, what spreads faster on social media in the news? Negative or positive? Comments. 97, 98, or 98 % of all the news is negative. Why? That's what sells. [00:16:23]
Most of what you see and hear online is negative. Most of what you hear from your friend co-workers neighbors is negative. Most of what you see and hear in the news is negative. Most of what you hear in politics is negative. Most of what you see on TV is negative and most of what you tell yourself is negative. [00:20:32]
David in the Old Testament, shows us what to do when hit by an unbelievable amount of negative misfortune. In 1 Samuel 30, and if you have your Bibles, you can turn there. In 1 Samuel 30, chapter 30, it was the worst day in David's life. Worse than your week ever was. [00:30:48]
Some of you may feel so lonely right now and down. David found strength in the Lord. Some of you are at that low point in your life and need to find strength in the Lord. So what did David say to do that? What did he say to the Lord to gain that strength? [00:37:39]
We should be doing that with the word of God. Now, I don't know if you've ever heard of the word ruminate. Ruminate is also translated as meditate in the Hebrew language. We are to ruminate on the word of the Lord. Get every nutritional value out of his word for our soul. [00:43:48]
When you're struggling and at a very low point in your life find a verse in the word of God that can minister to your soul like David did, like Moses did, like Noah did like Daniel and like Paul, like Matthew, Mark, Luke and John did. And most of all, like our Lord Jesus did. [00:46:02]
Let's have a negative fast. From the news, from social media, from dark, demonic, musical lyrics. Let's turn to the word of God. Let's strengthen our soul like David did. Like Daniel did. Daniel prayed morning, noon, and night. [00:54:13]
When we gather one to another, we strengthen one another. We encourage one another. We lift up one another. That's hard to get out in the world. That's hard to get in the workplace. Their mindset is not what yours and mine are. It's not set on the things of God. [00:55:31]
