Transforming the Corrupted: Embracing Spiritual Renewal
Devotional
Day 1: Recognizing Our Corrupted Nature
Understanding that we are born with a corrupted internal operating system, which the Bible calls sin, is crucial for spiritual growth. This inherent flaw influences our desires and actions, often leading us away from God's will. Recognizing this helps us see the need for spiritual guidance and transformation. From a young age, if we are fortunate to have been raised with the fear of the Lord, we can learn to manage this corrupted system through discipline, training, and the guidance of authority. However, if our early experiences with authority are negative, we may develop a disdain for correction and wisdom, leaving us vulnerable to the deceitfulness of sin. [00:38]
Jeremiah 17:9-10 (ESV): "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 'I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.'"
Reflection: In what ways have you noticed your own "corrupted operating system" influencing your actions or decisions recently? How can you seek God's guidance to address these areas today?
Day 2: The Law as a Guide, Not a Cure
The law of God provides a standard for right and wrong, but it cannot cure our corrupted nature. It serves as a guide to keep us in check, helping us recognize our need for a savior. True transformation comes through the Holy Spirit, who offers a new spiritual operating system. The law highlights our shortcomings and points us to the necessity of divine intervention for true change. By understanding the purpose of the law, we can appreciate the grace offered through Jesus Christ, who fulfills the law on our behalf. [06:12]
Galatians 3:24-25 (ESV): "So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian."
Reflection: How has your understanding of God's law changed your perspective on your need for Jesus? What steps can you take to rely more on the Holy Spirit for transformation rather than your own efforts?
Day 3: Embracing a New Nature in Christ
Accepting Jesus Christ brings the Holy Spirit into our lives, providing us with a new nature that is pure and holy. This new system empowers us to overcome the old, corrupted one, but it requires our cooperation and choice to follow the Spirit's leading. The transformation is not automatic; it involves a conscious decision to align our lives with the Spirit's guidance. As we embrace this new nature, we experience freedom from the bondage of sin and a deeper relationship with God. [25:57]
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
Reflection: What areas of your life are still influenced by your old nature? How can you actively choose to follow the Spirit's leading in those areas today?
Day 4: Living a Life of Love and Service
Living according to the Spirit involves cultivating a life of love and service to others, which naturally displaces the old desires of the flesh. As we engage in good and wholesome activities, we find fulfillment and joy that surpasses any temporary pleasure the old system offers. This lifestyle reflects the character of Christ and draws others to Him. By focusing on love and service, we align ourselves with God's purpose and experience the abundant life He promises. [39:57]
1 John 3:18 (ESV): "Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."
Reflection: Who in your life can you serve today in a tangible way? How can you make love and service a regular part of your daily routine?
Day 5: The Process of Sanctification
The process of sanctification involves renewing our minds and aligning our will with God's. By doing so, we experience a life that is truly abundant and free from the bondage of sin, as we learn to live in the freedom and power of the Spirit. This ongoing transformation requires intentional effort and a commitment to spiritual growth. As we renew our minds through prayer, study, and reflection, we become more like Christ and reflect His glory to the world. [47:39]
Romans 12:2 (ESV): "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Reflection: What specific steps can you take to renew your mind and align your will with God's today? How can you make this a consistent practice in your spiritual journey?

Sermon Clips
Every single one of us are born with a corrupted operating system, that's what the Bible calls you're born in sin. Sin is an internal operating system that's corrupted by evil. You're born with it. This is why children, even youngest, they grab, they want, they take, they pull, they bite, because in the inside this internal operating system has been corrupted by evil. [00:00:38]
The law of God is made to help keep that operating system in check with right and wrong training and discipline are a help. This is why you might have heard this verse from Proverbs Chapter 1 that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. [00:02:16]
The law is there because that with that corrupted operating system working in us, the clear Commandments of the law give us guidance. You shall not do this. Stealing is wrong, killing is wrong, coveting is wrong. It's guidance. It's not going to cure that corrupted operating system, but it is going to keep it in check. [00:05:59]
God needed to make sure that a standard was preserved because I guarantee that corrupted operating system is not the right standard. You can't trust it. Sin is deceitful as you don't trust it. So God is going to create a standard of right and wrong so that a rule, something you can measure by. [00:18:23]
Jesus Christ did not come to enforce the standard. Jesus Christ came to cure the problem. Now how does that happen? Well, when you're born physically, you're born with that corrupt operating system, you're corrupted, and it's called sin in your members. [00:21:12]
When you hear the good news of Jesus Christ that in him he had the life of God, the fullness of God was in Jesus Christ, and he came to restore our connection spiritually to God so that when you hear the Gospel of Jesus, the good news about Jesus, and you believe, you take that step of faith and you receive the Jesus himself. [00:25:10]
Now you have that corrupt operating system is still there, but now you have God's Own internal operating system through his Spirit dwelling in you and that's where you start as a believer. So you still have the old to deal with, but now you have God's spirit sharing his nature, which is right and pure and good and holy. [00:25:53]
What determines whether we walk according to the old corrupt system or the new spirit of God, God's new and whole operating system in us, is what we choose to follow and think upon. And here's what Paul said: those who chose to cater to the flesh, the old system, what they're going to do is what do they reap from that system? [00:29:02]
If by the spirit, if by the new operating system you put to death the practices, what you did under the influence of the old system, then you'll begin to live by the spirit. What does it mean by putting to death those old practices? [00:30:32]
The more a person cultivates living by the new spirit, God's operating system in them, the more they just seek to bless people. Well, the more they're involved in blessing people, the less they're doing that's getting themselves in trouble all the time. It cleans your life up. Wholesome things take over unwholesome things. [00:40:02]
Sanctification is this, I mean being set apart. God is set apart from Evil. You know the word for evil in the Bible, it just means it's bad. It's bad for you. Doesn't it make sense if God is good that he would call something as bad for you evil? Come on, that makes perfect sense. [00:47:07]
Cooperate with God's spirit, cooperate with him. He will overpower the old system, and you will learn to live in the freedom of the spirit. It'll cure your mind, you're thinking new ways, you'll understand in new ways, and when you think in new ways and you understand in new ways, you respond in new ways. [00:50:10]
