Sermon Summary

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. When you're stuck, it feels like you don't have freedom, like you're oppressed, like you can't move, you can't make progress. And Jesus comes along and he offers freedom." [00:30:35] (25 seconds)

"All of these and other images of God are going to impact your ability to change. Even your desire to change. It's going to impact your attitude toward change. Your ideas of how and when change can happen. And it's going to impact your availability to the resources that God offers. The God who cares more about you getting unstuck than even you do." [00:43:00] (31 seconds)

"In other words, he paints this whole idea of change, of being transformed, of metamorphosis. He says, in view of God's mercy. So he's looking at God and he's saying, the God of mercy is the one who's going to help you change. Do you believe in a God who is merciful? Is that the image that you have? The image that you have of God." [00:43:40] (29 seconds)

"As we bring our whole self to be changed, see, here's what we've begun to realize. Like, getting unstuck involves recognizing the integration. If you are someone who's dealing with physical symptoms, headaches, sleeplessness, weight gain or weight loss, heart palpitations, you might go to a doctor, and they might say, well, here's the things we see going on. But you might need to sit down with someone who can help you understand what's going on in your mind, because there's an integration in your body between these things." [00:46:39] (40 seconds)

"Paul says, don't be conformed to the pattern of this world. Change involves recognizing destructive patterns around me. It's not a call to withdraw from the world. It's a call to have discernment, to have wisdom. As we explored in previous messages, consider the impact of going with the flow, right? With messages like this. I'm going to put these up on the screen for a moment." [00:50:51] (29 seconds)

"In other words, change is an ongoing process, right? Change is an ongoing process. The phrasing he says here is, like, this keeps going. It's a constant renewal. It's not a light switch. It's not a moment. It's just, hey, we did that once in the past, and now we're changed. No, this is an ongoing process. Keep on being renewed." [00:52:33] (25 seconds)

"That's what he's saying, right? It's this idea of we're testing, but we're really, by testing, we're discovering and learning and proving God's incredible design and purpose and plan, that it's good, that it's pleasing, that it's perfect. Like, we don't have to be perfect. We don't have to be perfect. We don't have to be perfect. We don't have to have that image in our minds." [00:56:00] (20 seconds)
