Transformation comes not by trying harder or simply changing outward behavior, but by allowing God to renew your mind from the inside out. The patterns of this world—chasing after success, image, and fleeting pleasures—can easily shape your thoughts and actions if you are not intentional about what you allow into your mind. Instead, God calls you to a new way of thinking, one that is shaped by His truth and grace. What you feed your mind will eventually show up in your life, so choose to fill your thoughts with what is good, true, and pleasing to God. [37:39]
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Reflection: What is one thought pattern or belief you’ve been holding onto that you know doesn’t align with God’s truth? How can you begin to replace it with God’s perspective today?
In a world where truth is often seen as relative and opinions are mistaken for facts, followers of Jesus are called to seek, speak, and live by the truth. The temptation to conform to the world’s shifting standards or to spread unverified information is strong, especially in the age of social media and echo chambers. Yet, Jesus came to testify to the truth, and those who belong to Him listen to His voice. Living with integrity means being careful with your words, discerning what is true, and being willing to stand for truth even when it is costly or unpopular. [41:45]
John 18:37-38 (ESV)
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”
Reflection: When was the last time you paused to verify something before sharing it or speaking about it? How can you commit to being a person of truth in your conversations this week?
The battle for your mind is not just about avoiding negative influences, but about actively filling your thoughts with what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. The world bombards you with messages that can lead to anxiety, comparison, and discontent, but God invites you to focus on things that build up your soul and reflect His character. By intentionally meditating on God’s Word and the beauty around you, you can experience greater peace and joy, and your life will begin to reflect God’s good and perfect will. [01:03:34]
Philippians 4:8 (ESV)
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Reflection: What is one practical way you can shift your focus today from negative or anxious thoughts to what is excellent and praiseworthy?
The world defines success by climbing higher, owning more, and being admired, but Jesus redefines success as faithfulness, humility, and service. The pressure to measure up to worldly standards can leave you feeling inadequate or constantly striving for more, yet Jesus teaches that the greatest among you will be your servant. Real fulfillment comes not from gaining the whole world, but from following Jesus wherever He leads and living in alignment with God’s purposes. [01:03:34]
Matthew 16:26 (ESV)
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Reflection: In what area of your life are you tempted to chase after worldly success? How can you choose faithfulness and service instead?
God calls His people to live differently from the world by uniting their gifts, presence, and resources for the sake of His kingdom. Rather than living with a scarcity mindset or focusing solely on personal gain, you are invited to practice generosity and stewardship, recognizing that together, the church can do incredible things. When you give and serve in community, you reflect the heart of Christ and participate in God’s work of hope, joy, and purpose in the world. [27:29]
2 Corinthians 9:7-8 (ESV)
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Reflection: How can you use your gifts or resources this week to bless someone in your church or community in a tangible way?
Today’s gathering centered on the call to resist the world’s patterns and instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds, as Paul writes in Romans 12:2. The world is full of beauty—God’s creation, acts of kindness, and the diversity of people—but there is also a pattern in the world that draws us away from God’s kingdom and our truest selves. This pattern is subtle, often shaping us through the messages we consume, the pressures we feel, and the values we absorb from culture, media, and even our own inner dialogue.
The journey begins with the mind. What we allow into our thoughts will eventually shape our lives. If we dwell on negativity, fear, or the world’s false standards of success and worth, our actions and self-perception will follow. Social media, news cycles, and advertising all have a powerful influence, often feeding us messages that question our value, distort truth, and pressure us to conform. The world tells us that image matters more than character, that success is about climbing higher and owning more, and that truth is relative—“my truth” versus “your truth.” But God calls us to something different.
Jesus’ encounter with Pilate—where Pilate cynically asks, “What is truth?”—reminds us that the confusion and dismissal of truth is not new. In our age, the spread of misinformation, especially online, can be as damaging as the feathers from a split pillow scattered in the wind—impossible to gather back. We are called to be careful with our words, to seek and speak truth, and to live with integrity, even when it is costly or countercultural.
True transformation does not come from trying harder or simply changing our behavior. It comes from allowing God to renew our minds—filling our thoughts with what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. As we do this, we become people who reflect God’s will, grace, and truth in a world desperate for authenticity and hope. We are invited to live as one-of-a-kind people, shaped not by the world’s mold, but by the Spirit of Christ, and to practice this renewal daily, especially as we gather at the Lord’s table, remembering Christ’s sacrifice and love.

We're talking about this pattern that's in this world, this message that's in this world, that moves us away from the kingdom of God, that moves us away actually from being our best selves and loving people as God has loved us. It actually makes us where we sometimes don't even love ourselves because we're drawn into believing these false messages about ourselves. [00:40:54] (23 seconds) #RejectFalseMessages
It doesn't say be transformed by trying harder does it or by cleaning up your behavior it says be transformed by the renewing of your mind because here's the thing what we allow into our minds is eventually going to show up in our lives. [00:42:10] (23 seconds) #TransformationThroughRenewal

It's also that image matters more than character you know if we look good regardless of what our character regardless of how we treat other people that's fine our image is what's important and then this this last one which is a real problem and that is truth is irrelevant. [00:45:52] (19 seconds) #CharacterOverImage
There are some things that are just facts they're just facts my name is Dave Benson I am preaching this sermon this morning that is a fact right now whether you like the sermon or not that's opinion and that's okay some people will probably like it and there'll be other people saying I didn't particularly care for that today didn't know where he was going with all of that you know and that's fine that's opinion.
