1) "Yet it doesn't, when you read Genesis, it doesn't stop God. It doesn't prohibit God from engaging with us and being with us. And it seems kind of ironic, but it seems like the more worse our human condition is, the worse our human condition is. God engages with us even deeper, and we can see this throughout the stories of Genesis because we see so many flawed people, just deep, raw, just mistake after mistake, and yet you find a God who loves and engages with his creation, and God shows his presence and his faithfulness."

2) "But however, in this mess, this ugly, ugly mess, we're going to discover a God who stands in the middle of it all, displaying grace and goodness, and turning this mess, this ugly family mess, into something beautiful. So join me this morning. Join me with me this morning as we impact this huge, ugly, but beautiful mess."

3) "The reality is this. No one likes feeling desperate. We hate it. When we feel desperate, we're tempted to act because we think some action is better than nothing. But if you're in that place right now where you just feel so desperate, God is saying to us in this passage, don't make decisions out of desperation, but instead wait upon the Lord. Don't make your decisions based upon desperation, because we have a powerful God that who is involved in our lives. Instead, we need to wait upon the Lord."

4) "Instead of your desires directing your decisions, have God direct your desires. Let me say that again. Instead of your desires directing your decisions, have God direct your desires. We live in a world that says you just got to go based upon how you feel, how it makes you feel, because you should be happy at all costs. You should do this because it makes you feel good. When we base our direction, our decisions on our desires, and we allow our desires to direct us, in opposition to God, the consequences are going to be disastrous."

5) "God remembers means that God remains faithful. He's faithful. He doesn't forget. God remembers means that God will honor his covenant promise to be with us because he doesn't forget. God remembers means that God will work according to his time and purpose because he doesn't forget. God remembers that he will always see us, hear us, and act according to what is best for us for his purpose and for his glory."

6) "God brings life out of our huge, ugly messes. When we've created these messes, God cleans it up. He does because he's that good and faithful, and he stands in the middle of these big, huge, ugly messes. And so what happens? Later, Rachel conceives, and she bears another son, Benjamin. Jacob now has 12 sons and one daughter. And these 12 sons are the beginning of the 12 tribes of Israel."

7) "God brings life out of huge, ugly messes. God is that good. God does that for us. The reality is we're not perfect. We're going to mess up. We're going to screw up. We're going to face the consequences of our actions, but God never leaves us there because he's always redemptive. He's always redeeming us, and he's always restoring us. God is always working for us and for his glory."
