Words have the power to shape our lives, bringing either life or death, and the way we use them reflects the state of our hearts. As we consider the impact of our words, it’s important to move beyond simply choosing positive or negative language and instead intentionally speak blessing—over ourselves, our families, and our communities. This is not just a matter of wishing someone well or sending “good vibes,” but of invoking the promises of God, who alone is the true source of blessing. From the very beginning, God’s pattern has been to bless His people, even when they were undeserving, because we are made in His image and He delights in showing us favor.
The ancient blessing from Numbers 6:24-26—“May the Lord bless you and protect you…”—reminds us that blessing is both a prayer and a declaration of God’s goodness, protection, and peace. It’s not a ritual reserved for special occasions, but something to be woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Whether it’s praying over our children, our spouses, our meals, or even the places we find ourselves, speaking blessing is a way of aligning our hearts with God’s heart and inviting His presence into every aspect of our lives.
Changing our routines to make space for blessing can feel uncomfortable, but it’s in these intentional moments that our identity is shaped. Blessing is not a one-time event, but a habit that forms the core of who we are. When we consistently speak blessing, we not only remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness, but we also become conduits of His grace to those around us. Even in strained relationships or difficult circumstances, choosing to bless rather than curse transforms our perspective and opens the door for God’s peace and favor to flow.
Ultimately, blessing is an act of surrender—acknowledging that every good thing comes from God and that we depend on Him for protection, provision, and peace. As we make blessing a daily practice, we participate in God’s ongoing work of renewal in our lives and in the world.
Numbers 6:24-26 (ESV) — > The Lord bless you and keep you;
> the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
> the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Genesis 1:28 (ESV) — > And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
What is a blessing? A blessing is divine. A blessing doesn't come merely from us, but it is from us speaking to God and bringing blessing upon us. God has a pattern over and over and over of blessing his people. And there are times in the history of Israel that you say, God, you probably shouldn't bless them right now. There are some evil things going on even within the Israelite people. But God keeps the promise. [00:04:50] (42 seconds) #DivineBlessingPromise
``Blessings are more than us just saying, I hope you do well. It's the old Facebook adage: either you offer up your prayers, a little prayer emoji, or it's good vibes, I'm sending you good vibes. It's not what a blessing is. A blessing is that we pray to God our Father and what he promises of us. It's what he said in Genesis: I will bless you. He doesn't bless the animals, he doesn't bless the trees, he doesn't bless all these little things, he blesses his people. Why? Because we are made in God's own image. But truly, truly, we're looking for God's blessing in our life. For him to look over us. What does Numbers say? That the Lord bless you and protect you. That the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace. Because we surrender ourselves to God. We surrender ourselves to him. Everything good flows from him. [00:07:36] (35 seconds) #SurrenderToGodsPeace
When we speak blessings as a core for who we are, it shapes us. As we've said over and over, our words shape who we are. Our words show our inmost being. And if we choose, choose to find blessing as our everyday language. Have intentional spaces within our days. To read into his scripture, all great things. But to ask God that we follow through with what this says. Lord, protect me. Protect my family. Lord, as I come before you, that you are smiling down upon me. But God loves me no matter who I am, no matter where I am. And he wants me to be facing towards him. He loves to smile down upon us. That he's gracious to us. That he shows us his favor. The more we speak blessings, the more blessing comes to us. [00:11:43] (30 seconds) #GodLovesUnconditionally
Whenever they speak blessing, God will bless. It doesn't say that Aaron will bless them. It says, when they speak blessing, God will bless his people. When we speak blessing over our homes, over our spouses, over our children, over our families, and that becomes a habit of our homes, it's not just a single moment that we just come to today. [00:12:28] (35 seconds) #SpeakBlessingReceiveBlessing
Even when they're exiled out of Israel, even when they're enslaved in Egypt, there's blessing. And in due time, God reveals...Such powerful things when we stay true to who He is. [00:16:16] (18 seconds) #BlessChildrenWithBlessings
For spouses, how can we say a prayer of blessing, an affirmation over our spouse on a daily basis? Not just once in a while, but as a core of who we are. How hard would it be in the middle of an argument to come up with a blessing? How hard would it be in the middle of a time where you're just in this disagreement and you're ready just to go off to bed to stop yourself and say, Okay, deep breath. Thank you. And pray a blessing. And that it change our hearts. Because we're not against our spouses. We are for our spouses. Our spouse together with us are one unit together to get through this life. Our biggest supporters and sometimes our hardest foe. But it's so important to, even when we have disagreements, we always come back to the promises that we made to each other. Those promises that God made to us. [00:16:59] (74 seconds) #RecordDailyBlessings
Blessing is a way that God uses to strengthen us, his people. He puts his blessing upon us. He loves us so deeply that he is willing to protect. He is willing to provide. He asks of us to come to him for that. [00:19:10] (23 seconds) #ServeWithBlessingCore
