Transforming Lives: The Journey of Sanctification

Devotional

Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1. "We pray that every person in this room learns how to anchor their lives to the hope of Jesus Christ. The message of Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forevermore. He's the same God. And our prayer is that when you begin to pursue Jesus, you would find an incredible relationship that is forgiveness and change and transformation. But that you would encounter a real love as you anchor your hope to Christ." [32:24] (25 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "To be dedicated is to be devoted and exclusively allocated to, I love this, intended for a particular purpose. Did you know that your life is meant to be allocated towards the purposes of God? When you think of like, I want to allocate funds every month in my budget towards groceries, you set it apart for a specific purpose, right? And sometimes if you eat out too much, you find your grocery fund diminishing and your entertainment fund taking over. And all God's people said, not on my watch." 3. "There is no nominal Christian. There is no such thing as a part-time Christian. Some days I wish there were. Some days when my flesh rises up and I want to behave in a way that's counterintuitive to that inner work of the Spirit within me. And those are moments to full stop right now. Surrender all over again. There is no Sunday morning Christian. There's no such thing. Don't be deceived in that. We are either intentionally inviting the Holy Spirit, the authority of Scripture, and the life and accountability of the family of faith to shepherd us as a disciplined follower of Christ, or we're not. There's no middle ground." [42:48] (47 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "Jesus didn't submit to a Roman crucifixion to temporarily modify some sinful behavior in our lives. He died to crucify and bury our sin nature. He stepped out of a tomb to raise us back up into a new life. If you were in the room for baptisms last week Sunday, second service. No longer slaves to the power of sin but set free as children of God. Set free. It's for freedom that Jesus makes us free." [45:20] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "Right behavior will never correct a corrupt heart. But a dedicated and sanctified heart will overflow and change the way we live. We get our hearts right, the overflow changes. And so today we pray. Father, create in us a clean heart, oh God. Renew a right spirit within me. And we're challenged today in Proverbs 4 to keep our hearts with all vigilance for from it flow the springs of life." [49:09] (30 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "When we examine our inner lives. Our heart and motives and thoughts and desires. Through the mirror of Christ's spotless and perfect reflection. We are compelled to do whatever it takes in faith. To put off our old self. And put on our new. Big breath. Recreated in Christ Jesus after the likeness of God. Who designed and created us to be set apart self. How? By being renewed in the spirit of our minds." [58:08] (30 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "Did you know that just because you have a thought. Doesn't mean you have to agree with that thought? Can I let that settle into the room for a second today? Just because you have a thought. Doesn't mean that you have to agree with it. It's tricky. Because it's like up here. And so we think that because it's up here it must be me. But just because you have a thought. Doesn't mean you have to agree with that thought." [01:04:33] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "Renewing the mind involves a dedication to us saying, I'm going to test and discern what the will of God is. In my thought life, when I have a thought, I'm going to test and I'm going to discern, is this God's will? And we can always know what God's will is. We're never in the dark about that. Why? Because he wrote it down. It's in the book." [01:05:16] (28 seconds) ( | | )

9. "We all receive the deception from the enemy and the lie from the enemy in our inner life. We all have lies that we've believed along the way. We all experience this. This is a process. We're going to always have to do this. But if you don't know the Word, the truth from Scripture will never be able to set you free from the lies and the deception in your thought life, in the inner man. And wouldn't you know, everything flows out of the inner man." [01:09:13] (28 seconds) ( | | )
