1. "So after thoroughly explaining the gospel, Paul says, once we understand the gospel, knowing what the Lord has done for us, sending his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross, shed his blood for us, so that through him we might be saved, once we know that, the sensible thing, the reasonable, rational thing to do is to dedicate our lives to the Lord."

2. "A sacrifice is surrendering a possession and not changing our minds about it later. Surrendering a possession of ours and not changing our mind about it later. In this case, particular case, it's our body. And we better understand sacrifice when we look at sacrifices made in the Old Testament, which we've read about as we've gone through the Bible in a Year reading program."

3. "Your physical body is required for you to serve the will of God in your life. Your physical body is required for you to do that. Maybe someone else can see a scenario where that's not the case, but I can't really think of one. Our physical body is something we need to carry out the will of God in our life. Even Jesus put on a physical body to carry out God's will."

4. "To be conformed means to be shaped from the outside in, to be shaped by what's around you. It's like being placed in a mold and taking the form of a mold. Like kids, young David's downstairs doing stuff with the kids this morning. If a kid takes Play-Doh and they put it in a mold and they squish it in the mold, the Play-Doh takes the shape of the mold. It's conformed to the mold."

5. "So as a follower of Jesus, what does it mean to be a non-conformist? It means that as a Christian, I resist the pressures and the influences around me that want to shape who I am, to put me into a mold. I resist those things. When Paul writes, don't be conformed to the world, he's referring to the values, the behaviors, the norms that would oppose living life as a follower of Jesus."

6. "Being conformed happens from the outside in, being transformed happens from the inside out. A bit of interesting trivia about that is that the chrysalis that was formed was also a transformation. It happened from the inside out. I learned this the other day. I always thought that they spun that like a spider spins a web or something like that. But I always thought that what actually happens is it's a transformation."

7. "We can influence people, which is good. It certainly has its place. We can exercise self-discipline, which is also good and certainly has its place. But we should also remember that the thing that changes who we are is not what we do, but what the Lord Jesus Christ does in us. And that's what we should do. And that's what we should do. And that's what we should do."

8. "To really simplify this, the renewing of your mind basically comes down to letting the right stuff in and keeping the wrong stuff out. Because if we let the wrong stuff in, what's going to happen is we're going to end up conformed. If we let the right stuff in, keep the wrong stuff out, we will be transformed. Then as the Holy Spirit works through this, these things will grow, we'll become more in tune with God's will, better able to understand it."

9. "Following God's will, the first step in doing that really is deciding that's what I'm going to do. And that's what Paul's talking about this in the sacrificing ourselves to the Lord within our body, our mind, our will, deciding I'm going to do that. Actively deciding that allows that transformation, allows the Holy Spirit to work in us. And transformation is where we will find fulfillment and the peace that we seek as we sacrifice."

10. "But when we hear that, present your bodies as a living sacrifice, that sounds extreme. But Paul tells us, he says, knowing what we know about what the Lord has done for us, that's the reasonable thing to do. Our Father in heaven, we love you and praise you. We are thankful for this day, your blessings, Lord. Thankful for bringing us together."
