Jesus invites everyone who is thirsty—anyone who knows they need more from life, who feels broken, lost, or simply unsatisfied—to come to Him and receive living water. This living water is not just a temporary fix but an overflowing, abundant life that transforms us from the inside out and spills over to impact those around us. No matter your background, wounds, or current situation, Jesus promises to pour His life into you, filling you with hope and purpose that extends beyond yourself. When you come to Him, you are not only refreshed but also become a source of life for others in your community, your workplace, and your family. [07:05]
John 7:37-38 (ESV)
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
Reflection: Where in your life do you feel most thirsty or empty right now, and what would it look like to bring that need honestly to Jesus today, asking Him to fill you with His living water?
From the very beginning, God’s desire has been for people to live in relationship with Him, to be filled with His presence, and to thrive—not by striving for possessions or achievements, but by having Jesus at the heart of our lives. True thriving is not about what we own or accomplish, but about being rooted in God’s love and purpose, receiving His life as a gift, and letting that life shape everything we do. When we open our hearts to Jesus, He changes us from within, giving us love, joy, peace, and all the fruits of the Spirit, regardless of our circumstances. [13:41]
John 10:10 (ESV)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Reflection: What is one area where you have been striving for fulfillment apart from Jesus, and how can you invite Him to be at the center of that area today?
God’s heart has always been for every person to know His love, experience healing, and find freedom. Jesus declared that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him to bring good news to the poor, freedom for the captives, sight for the blind, and to proclaim God’s favor. This is the reality of God’s kingdom—wherever God’s will is done, lives are restored, hope is renewed, and people are set free. Jesus invites us not only to receive this for ourselves but to join Him in bringing this life to others. [11:57]
Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Reflection: Who in your life needs to hear good news or experience God’s freedom and healing, and how might you be part of bringing that to them this week?
The true church is not defined by buildings, services, or programs, but by people who have come to Jesus, received His life, and are being transformed by His Spirit. These people are called to share God’s love and life with every person and in every place they go, bringing hope, joy, and change to their communities. Being the church means living dependently on God, passionately loving others, and daring to make a difference together, wherever we are. [18:50]
Acts 1:8 (ESV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Reflection: In what practical way can you bring God’s life and love into one specific place or relationship this week, being the church outside of a building?
Thriving as God intends is not about having a perfect life or avoiding hardship, but about surrendering our lives to Jesus and allowing Him to change us from the inside out. When we put Jesus first, He fills our hearts with His Spirit, producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and more—qualities that do not depend on our circumstances. Even in difficulty, we can experience true life because we are with the One who loves us perfectly and unconditionally, and He empowers us to bring life to others. [15:47]
Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Reflection: Which fruit of the Spirit do you most long to see grow in your life right now, and what is one step you can take to open your heart more fully to Jesus’ transforming presence today?
The story of Church at Barking Riverside began not with a grand plan, but with a series of small steps of obedience, listening, and prayer. Anna and I never intended to leave our comfortable life in Loughton, but as we explored the idea of starting a new worshipping community in Barking Riverside, God stirred our hearts. Each step forward brought new confirmation that this was His calling for us. Our vision, however, is not simply to start another church or run great programs. Instead, we long to see the UK thriving, with Jesus at the heart of every person and every place—beginning right here in Barking Riverside.
This vision is rooted in the story of God throughout the Bible. From the very beginning, God’s overflowing love led Him to create people and places to fill with His presence. Though humanity turned away, God’s purpose has always been to restore and bring life. Jesus came to offer life in all its fullness, not just for individuals, but for communities and nations. He invites all who are thirsty to come to Him, promising to pour living water into us—so much so that it overflows into the world around us.
Thriving, as Jesus defines it, is not about possessions, status, or comfort. It’s about having Jesus at the centre of our hearts, allowing Him to transform us from the inside out. This transformation produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and all the fruits of the Spirit, regardless of our circumstances. Even in suffering or struggle, life with Jesus is richer and more meaningful than anything we could achieve on our own.
God’s purpose is not just for us to receive this life, but to share it. Jesus sends His followers to every person and every place, to bring His kingdom—His way of life—wherever we go. The church is not a building or a Sunday event, but a people who have encountered Jesus, been changed by Him, and are committed to bringing His life to others. Our core values reflect this: dependence on God, passion for people, and daring to make a difference. Together, we seek to become these kinds of people, supporting and encouraging one another as we join in God’s work in our community and beyond.
