Father I ask that we would understand how the list here, anger wrath malice slander obscene talk, relates to the list here, sexual immorality and Purity passion, evil desire covetousness. Lord we want to be done with these, and we want to be done with these we want to die to these we want to put them all away or as it says later put off the old self. [00:53:53]

We once acted out what was our life that's my attempt to understand the connection between walking and living in these sexual sins. We walked once when we lived in them. Ordinarily we think of our walk as our life, but since he distinguishes them I'm suggesting that we found these things to be our life. [00:116:52]

I want this sex I want this immorality and sex I want this passion to be just to be satisfied I have this strong desire it's really multiplied. What happens if you don't get it? This is what happens: get angry, wrathful, malice, slander, obscene talk. [00:312:25]

Paul makes thankfulness the alternative of this filthy language referred to right here this obscene talk so Paul has in his mind that the problem with this kind of emotional response is that it shows we are more upset at not getting what we want then we are thankful for getting what we have. [00:372:36]

We ought to be a thankful people instead of a bitter and angry people who are ticked off because I'm not getting what I want. I think that's the connection, and he says now, put it away, put all of these away. [00:404:10]

We talked about how you put these things to death, and now he shifts to put away and the put away is the same as put off like a garment and put on like a garment and I I say that because this word which isn't the same as put off here is used that way in Ephesians 4. [00:437:56]

Paul is thinking here of not putting to death, the imagery changes to you've got a a uniform and it's the old self uniform and you need to strip it off and some of the insignias on that old uniform are anger and wrath and Malice and slander and obscene talk and you need to take that garment off and throw it in the fire. [00:479:27]

This group here is how you respond as an old man that is in your former self your sinful rebellious fleshly self this is how you respond when you don't get this so five of these go with five of those and then the alternative for the Christian is compassioned Hearts kindness humility meekness patience. [00:548:34]

I'm angry because I didn't get something I wanted up here, and that anger becomes even more intense as I brood on it and becomes Furious, and when my anger is furious it begins to have ill will towards those who denied me what I want they have really made me angry my anger is rising to Fury it is becoming malice. [00:675:29]

When my anger is furious it begins to have ill will towards those who denied me what I want they have really made me angry my anger is rising to Fury it is becoming malice that is I want something bad to happen to them and then it flows over into my mouth, first with slander I say false things about them to put them in the worst possible light I can. [00:689:09]

Put that all away be done take it off put away anger put away Fury put away malice put away slander put away obscene talk from your mouth. [00:736:19]

We'll talk more as we wrap it up with verse 9 here about how putting off and putting on the old self and the new self is the way you do that putting away. [00:751:08]
