1) "The key to Jesus' teaching today is the very last line, the very last words, that we would receive eternal life in the age to come. It's the ability for us in our hearts to be transformed. Transformed to recognize that we want to, as he says elsewhere, store up treasures in heaven, right? Not treasures on earth. And so Jesus uses a very great story of this rich young man. And in Luke's gospel, he calls him a king or a ruler. So most likely he was probably both."

2) "We too have things that pop up in our life of worldly things that become or maybe take over the place in our hearts that is for God alone, right? I think if you're anything like me, that's a daily thing that takes place. You know, I'll be paying attention. I'll be going to prayer. And then all of a sudden I recognize like there's some, let's call it a fear of something coming up that's really taken the place of where Jesus wants to be. I'm not trusting in that moment."

3) "It's a daily thing of recognizing our need to encourage, to deepen our relationship with the Lord and our walk in this life, to pay attention. What is trying to get into that center of my heart where Jesus is supposed to be? And we can pray about that. We can bring it to him. We can surrender it to him."

4) "So as a matter of fact, in this next week, we're going to begin a homily series on what's called the kerygma, which is just a word. It's just basically the proclamation that Jesus' followers begin to proclaim throughout the area in that early church. Because have you ever thought about it? There weren't that many of them after Jesus died and rose from the dead. You know, let's say maybe 500 to 1,000. And then all of a sudden, like, the world is transformed, right?"

5) "Over this next week, there's a couple of things I want to ask you to do. First one is if you know someone in your family or your friends or your neighbors who maybe haven't been to church in a while, they're Catholic, but they've kind of stopped going, invite them back. And say, I want you to come and hear this series of homilies over these weeks to really understand the big story of what God has done in our world and in our lives and what he wants to do in each one of our hearts, right?"

6) "Ask Jesus this week, what is the thing that's taking up space in my heart, Jesus, that doesn't need to be there, that you want to free up so that you can place your love, your spirit, your wisdom into my heart and pray about it this week. Ask Jesus. Go into prayer, maybe an adoration if you get an opportunity and just ask him and do it every day. Just ask him, what is the thing?"

7) "He wants to set our hearts on fire with love for him. And oftentimes, I think we all have this case where we don't experience that fire of his love in our life because there's so much stuff going on in our life and there's so many heavy things going on. There's so many things going on in the world that we can really just become bogged down with that and not recognize the presence of the Lord in our lives because he's always there. He's always at work."

8) "Let's talk about that this week. Jesus, what is it that I need to surrender to you so that I can create, not just to surrender it, not just to say it's bad, right, but to create space in my heart to receive more of your love, of your life? And Lord, who is it that I can invite this week over this course of these next six weeks and these homilies so that their hearts can be opened to you, so their hearts can know the gospel, so they can really encounter you, in a powerful way."
