Transforming Curses into Blessings Through Faith
Summary
In tonight's gathering, we explored the profound theme of "Reverse the Curse," drawing from Deuteronomy 23:4-5, where God turned a curse into a blessing for Israel because of His love for them. This concept of reversing curses is deeply rooted in the biblical narrative, beginning with the curse in the Garden of Eden and culminating in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, Jesus reversed the curse of sin and death, offering us life and blessing instead.
We delved into various biblical stories that illustrate God's power to turn situations around. Hannah's story in 1 Samuel is a testament to this, where her barrenness was transformed into fruitfulness, symbolizing how God can change our circumstances. Similarly, Joseph's journey from the pit to becoming a prime minister in Egypt exemplifies how God can use adversity for a greater purpose, turning what was meant for evil into good.
Isaiah 61:7 promises a double portion for our shame, highlighting God's ability to bring blessings out of our struggles. This theme resonates with the story of Mordecai and Esther, where the gallows meant for Mordecai became the downfall of Haman, demonstrating God's justice and reversal of evil plans.
The sermon emphasized that God is a God of turnarounds, capable of transforming our lives from curses to blessings. We are encouraged to stretch our faith, prepare for God's blessings, and believe in His power to change our situations. The message is clear: no matter the adversity or curse we face, God can reverse it, bringing us into a place of victory and blessing.

Devotional
Day 1: God's Love Transforms Curses
God's love has the power to transform curses into blessings, as seen in the story of Israel in Deuteronomy 23:4-5. This principle is foundational to understanding how God operates in our lives, turning our adversities into opportunities for His glory. The biblical narrative is filled with examples of God reversing curses, from the Garden of Eden to the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, Jesus reversed the curse of sin and death, offering us life and blessing instead. This profound truth encourages us to trust in God's love and His ability to change our circumstances for the better. [08:41]
Deuteronomy 23:4-5 (ESV): "because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. But the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loved you."
Reflection: Think of a situation in your life that feels like a curse. How can you invite God's love into this situation to transform it into a blessing today?
Day 2: Adversity as a Path to Purpose
Joseph's life illustrates that what others intend for harm, God can use for good. His journey from slavery to leadership in Egypt teaches us that God can use our trials to position us for His purposes. Joseph's story is a powerful reminder that adversity can be a path to discovering God's greater plan for our lives. When we face challenges, we can trust that God is at work, using our circumstances to shape us and prepare us for the roles He has designed for us. This perspective encourages us to view our struggles as opportunities for growth and alignment with God's will. [16:46]
Genesis 50:20 (ESV): "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."
Reflection: Reflect on a recent challenge you faced. How might God be using this adversity to prepare you for a greater purpose?
Day 3: Double for Your Trouble
Isaiah 61:7 promises a double portion for our shame, reminding us that God can bring abundant blessings out of our struggles. This encourages us to trust in His ability to turn our pain into gain. The promise of a double portion is a testament to God's generosity and His desire to bless us beyond our expectations. When we experience shame or hardship, we can hold onto the hope that God will not only restore us but also bless us abundantly. This assurance invites us to remain faithful and hopeful, even in the midst of difficulties. [27:12]
Isaiah 61:7 (ESV): "Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy."
Reflection: Identify an area of your life where you feel shame or loss. How can you trust God to bring a double portion of blessing in this area?
Day 4: Faith Prepares for Breakthrough
The call to "enlarge your tent" in Isaiah 54:1-3 challenges us to prepare for God's blessings by stretching our faith and making room for His work in our lives. This proactive faith invites God's miraculous intervention. By preparing for God's blessings, we demonstrate our trust in His promises and our readiness to receive what He has in store for us. This act of faith requires us to step out of our comfort zones and expand our expectations, believing that God is capable of doing more than we can imagine. [32:23]
Isaiah 54:2-3 (ESV): "Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to "enlarge your tent" and prepare for God's blessings? How can you take a step of faith today?
Day 5: God's Justice Prevails
The story of Mordecai and Haman demonstrates that God can reverse evil plans and bring justice. This reassures us that God is in control, and He will vindicate His people, turning intended harm into triumph. Mordecai's story is a powerful example of God's justice and His ability to turn the tables on those who plot against His people. When we face injustice or opposition, we can trust that God sees our situation and will act on our behalf. This confidence in God's justice allows us to remain steadfast and hopeful, knowing that He will ultimately prevail. [40:22]
Esther 7:9-10 (ESV): "Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, 'Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman's house, fifty cubits high.' And the king said, 'Hang him on that.' So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated."
Reflection: Consider a situation where you feel wronged or unjustly treated. How can you trust in God's justice and His ability to turn the situation around for your good?
Quotes
"Nevertheless, the Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam, but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee. Amen. Verse 5, He turned the curse into a blessing, because the Lord loved them. I want to preach tonight for a few minutes here with the help of the Lord on the subject of reverse the curse. Reverse the curse. Amen. Let's put our Bible down beside us, and let's give the Lord a hand of praise and worship tonight. Lord, we bless you." [00:01:37]
"But when Jesus came 2,000 years ago, He came to destroy that curse. And through the blood of Jesus and the death and the burial and the resurrection, Jesus says, I am the life. I have overcome death, hell, and the grave. And because of Jesus Christ and the blood of Jesus, that curse was reversed. Can I have an amen? That thing changed." [00:04:00]
"And she was embarrassed and ashamed. It was a terrible, terrible, terrible thing to be barren in those days. It was a curse, a terrible curse. And Hannah was shocked. Stricken and smitten with the curse of barrenness. And she couldn't have children. But the Lord intervened in that situation, as you know. And God opened up her womb, and she was able to bring forth a son. And they named the little son Samuel." [00:05:16]
"Isaiah 61:7 for your shame you shall have double and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion therefore in their land they shall possess the double in other words instead of shame you're going to have a double blessing instead of confusion you're going to have a double portion." [00:08:41]
"And he was a man of integrity and character. He was a man that, he had adversity. The chips were against him. It was all against him. But Joseph was a man that stood his ground and maintained his integrity. And the Lord, even in the midst of all he was going through there, God was able to promote him and bless him and help him and turn all that around." [00:10:21]
"to promote and elevate and help us rather than cast us down and and humiliate us and embarrass us and shame us he wants to turn shame into victory he wants to turn defeats into victory he wants to turn what the devil meant for evil god says you just hang around a while and i'll show you i can bring good out of that i can flip the script on him i can turn the tables and what it all meant look like it was going down the drain the tubes god says just hang on with me give me some time to work i'll change this thing for you i'll show you i'm a god that can repair i'm a god that can restore i'm a god that can move i'm a god of miracles tonight hallelujah for your shame you shall have double and i want to pronounce that over some by tonight the devil has given you a bunch of shame and a bunch of stuff but how many can receive i'm getting a double blessing in place of all that god well glad y 'all can receive that we we can get a double blessing if if that's what we want bad enough seemed like i read somewhere about somebody in the bible getting a double portion blessing" [00:13:36]
"Stepped in and showed up, and God turned all that around, and God gave you a testimony. God gave you a praise report. That's what Hannah had. Hannah had that praise report. She was saying, look, all these things, the poor people, they don't get those kind of blessings. The barren women don't do that, but yet the Lord changed that around. God turned the tables, and now the barren women are barren children. She talked from experience because she was made fun of and laughed at and mocked, but here she is now. She's holding Samuel in her arms, a miracle baby, because he's a God that says, you're not going to end this way. I'm going to finish what I started, and I'll show you. I can bring something out of your nothing." [00:15:51]
"and is the Egypt was grieved because of the children of Israel the more pressure they put on them the more struggle they made him go through the harder they put it on them the more the more difficult the taskmasters got didn't matter they still multiplied and they grew because we serve a God that can reverse the curse he can turn the tables he can too he can work where it utterly impossible for what it looks like could be done but by all means certainly they would have been afflicted and they would have they would have been subjected to the bondage but God had a way of doing this to where instead of them being beat down and and and just just just being refusing to understand you know God can help them God can work a move the Lord stepped in the more they were beat up the Lord raised him up more y 'all we serve an awesome God tonight the more they were beat up the more they were raised up the more the devil tries to fight us if we'll just stand our ground God's gonna have us covered the more the enemy tries to fight our homes our families or our health our finances we'll just stand our ground and wait upon the Lord and trust him no matter how much they afflict us we can still multiply we can still grow some of the greatest revivals in the world are in impoverished countries they're in countries that are politically challenged and they're in countries where the their access is changed but they're having revival because we serve a God that cannot be stopped we serve a God come on somebody he can reverse what the enemy says and change it all for good" [00:20:23]
"be accomplished she got her little maidens to fast and pray and some others are fasting and praying and she said all right i'll go in she said but if i perish i perish but i'm going to go in to stand before the king and i'm going to plead mercy for my people and what she did was went in a sense she was an intercessor she was an intercessor for the people of god haman haman was was the evil wicked man that was against israel then it's against esther and mordecai and he was so mad at mordecai he wanted to hang him on the gallows and haman erected some gallows and wanted to get the king to to promote mordecai to appoint mordecai to death and hang him on those gallows but the whole thing got turned around and instead of mordecai getting hung on those gallows haman hung on the gallows that he had built for mordecai because we serve a god that can reverse the curse and flip the script and turn the tables come on that's the kind of god we serve tonight hallelujah can you imagine can you imagine the irony of all this and just the astonishment that haman the embarrassment and shame that he the shame was meant for mordecai but mordecai was a man of god and esther was a lady of god and they stood for truth and the lord defended them and honored that and blessed them for that and the man who was setting all of the evil and wickedness up it was turned back on him and he hung on the gallows that he meant for the right and the wrong he said the lord is the righteous and he had the right to stay here but he was looking for the wrong and to serve the righteous and to make the righteous man to hang on because he served a mighty god tonight this is just another story oh i know you don't i don't need to give you any more just a little story about god will take care of his people and and there may be a curse that's come against us but god can reverse the curse there may have been evil pronounced over us it may be even in your family tree it may be maybe go back generations in your dna in the gene pool you have but doesn't matter we serve a god that can reverse that curse there may have been a curse put on your family 200 years ago but our god can reverse that curse and you don't have to carry that with you well i don't believe nobody here has that but i'm telling you if there's somebody was carrying a curse there's a god that can reverse that curse and change that thing around he could shut that thing down" [00:22:07]
" hallelujah and then of course Jesus he bore the whole curse for us all that death and humiliation and shame it was all bore on the cross all of it the sickness, the disease all the sins of mankind it was all bore on that cross by Jesus he became a curse for us so that we wouldn't have to be cursed and that's why I'm trying to say tonight and my yelling and screaming I'm just trying to say we do not have to live a cursed life we can live a blessed life we've got a God that can reverse things and turn things around we may be like Hannah who didn't have any possibilities no prospects of good it all looked like it was the other one was getting blessed more and there's people that feel that way you know they get blessed here they get that blessing they get that blessing and they get that blessing you know I don't seem to it just seems like I'm cursed but I'm telling you if you'll stand your ground in the Lord you'll stay faithful and true and you stand in righteousness you have a God that it may just seem like you're under a curse but he's a God that can turn that thing around he can bless you in spite of all you've been through in spite of all you're going through in spite of you not having very much to offer he's a God that can reverse and turn that thing around I think we should praise him one more time tonight give the Lord a praise in this house he's a God that can reverse and turn that thing around he's a God that can change it around whoo hallelujah I feel my helper here tonight let the weak say I'm strong" [00:26:34]
"The blessing wasn't on them yet. The advancement wasn't there yet. The children weren't there yet. The miracles hadn't took place. But the Lord said, go ahead and stretch out your tent stakes. Go ahead and enlarge your borders. Go ahead and get ready because you will break through. You will break forth. But you got to start getting ready for it. You got to start with praise and worship and making room for God's blessings. And when you show good faith, it's an opportunity for the Lord to go ahead and put the blessings on you. It's like when you're buying a house, you're going to put down earnest money. That's good faith money." [00:27:07]
"That's money that you're putting down on the table saying, I'm proven by this money that I'm buying this house. It is good faith money. In that passage in Isaiah, he says, go ahead, stretch your tent stakes out. Go ahead and enlarge your borders. Go ahead and get ready. Sing, O Barrett. He didn't say for the woman that was having producing children to sing. He says, sing, O Barrett, because something's going to happen to those that sing. Something will happen to those that get ready. Something will happen to those that stretch themselves and believe God's word. Somebody shout Amen." [00:28:51]
