Transformative Power of the Resurrection: A Call to Share
Summary
The gathering today was a heartfelt reminder of the significance of community and the transformative power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We began by acknowledging the importance of feeling at home within our church family, emphasizing that this is a place where everyone is known, valued, and loved. As we delved into the history of significant events that have shaped our world, we recognized that nothing compares to the impact of the resurrection of Jesus. This event is the cornerstone of our faith, as the Apostle Paul emphasized, and it holds the power to change lives both now and for eternity.
Our journey through John chapter 20 introduced us to Mary Magdalene, the first eyewitness of the resurrected Christ. Her story is one of profound transformation, from a woman tormented by demons to a devoted follower of Jesus. Despite her pain and confusion following Jesus' crucifixion, Mary continued to pursue Him, demonstrating unwavering faith even in her darkest moments. Her encounter with the risen Christ at the tomb, where He called her by name, highlights the personal and relational nature of God. This moment of recognition underscores the power of Jesus' resurrection to bring hope and purpose to our lives.
Mary's story also serves as a call to action for us to carry the message of the resurrection to others. Just as she was tasked with sharing the news with the disciples, we too are called to spread the message of Jesus' victory over death. Despite the potential for rejection or disbelief, as Mary experienced, we are encouraged to persist in sharing this life-changing truth. The resurrection is not just a historical event; it is a present reality that can transform lives today.

Day 1: The Resurrection as the Foundation of Our Faith
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the pivotal event that underpins the entire Christian faith. Without it, the beliefs and practices of Christianity would lack validation and purpose. The Apostle Paul emphasized that the resurrection is not just a historical event but a transformative reality that offers hope and assurance of eternal life. It is the cornerstone that confirms the truth of Jesus' teachings and His victory over death. This event assures believers that their faith is not in vain and that there is a promise of life beyond this world. The resurrection is a powerful reminder that through Christ, we have the hope of new life and the assurance of God's eternal promises. [03:37]
1 Corinthians 15:17-20 (ESV): "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."
Reflection: How does the reality of the resurrection influence your daily decisions and interactions with others? Can you identify an area in your life where you need to live more fully in the light of this truth?
Day 2: Seeking God in Our Darkest Moments
Mary Magdalene's story is a profound example of unwavering faith and devotion to Jesus, even in the midst of deep grief and confusion. After Jesus' crucifixion, Mary did not turn away in despair but continued to seek Him, demonstrating a deep trust in His presence and power. Her pursuit of Jesus, even in pain, teaches us the importance of running towards God rather than away from Him during our darkest times. It is in these moments that we can find comfort, understanding, and purpose in His presence. Mary's encounter with the risen Christ at the tomb is a testament to the transformative power of seeking God, even when circumstances seem bleak. [09:28]
Psalm 34:17-18 (ESV): "When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
Reflection: In what ways can you actively seek God's presence during times of personal pain or confusion? How might this change your perspective on the challenges you face?
Day 3: The Intimate Relationship God Desires with Us
The interaction between Jesus and Mary Magdalene at the tomb is a beautiful illustration of the personal and relational nature of God. When Jesus called Mary by name, it was a moment of profound recognition and connection, highlighting that God knows each of us personally and desires an intimate relationship with us. This encounter underscores the truth that God is not distant or detached but is deeply involved in our lives, walking with us through every circumstance. It is a reminder that we are known, valued, and loved by a God who desires to be in close relationship with us. [14:09]
Isaiah 43:1 (ESV): "But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.'"
Reflection: How can you cultivate a deeper, more personal relationship with God in your daily life? What steps can you take to recognize His presence and voice more clearly?
Day 4: Sharing the Transformative Message of the Resurrection
Mary Magdalene was entrusted with the responsibility of sharing the news of Jesus' resurrection with the disciples. Despite the potential for rejection or disbelief, she persisted in carrying this life-changing message. As followers of Christ, we too are called to share the good news of the resurrection with others. This message has the power to transform lives and bring hope to those who hear it. We are encouraged to persist in sharing this truth, knowing that it is not just a historical event but a present reality that can impact lives today. [20:28]
2 Timothy 1:8-10 (ESV): "Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
Reflection: Who in your life needs to hear the message of the resurrection? How can you share this transformative truth with them in a way that is both loving and compelling?
Day 5: Exploring the Truth of the Resurrection
For those who find the resurrection hard to believe, there is an open invitation to explore the historical accounts and witness the truth for themselves. This exploration can lead to a life-changing understanding of Jesus' victory over death. The resurrection is not just a matter of faith but is supported by historical evidence and eyewitness accounts. By examining these accounts, individuals can come to a deeper understanding of the significance of the resurrection and its implications for their lives. This journey of exploration can lead to a transformative encounter with the risen Christ and a renewed sense of purpose and hope. [24:22]
Acts 17:11-12 (ESV): "Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men."
Reflection: Are there questions or doubts you have about the resurrection? How can you take steps to explore these questions and seek a deeper understanding of this foundational truth?
Quotes
The resurrection is the lynchpin of our faith right the resurrection is is where our our faith all comes together in fact the Apostle Paul thought it was so important to tell the early church this look at his own words in Corinthians he says and if Christ has not been raised our preaching what I'm doing right now is useless and so is your faith. [00:03:01]
If Jesus is still dead if Jesus is still sitting in that grave or somewhere else here's the reality I've been lying to you for a long time I've stolen a lot of hours on your Sunday and we are all right now just completely wasting our time because our faith hinges on the fact that Jesus is alive. [00:03:51]
If Jesus is Alive if Jesus did defeat the grave and overcome death the resurrection holds the power to change your life now and forever let me say that again because here this is how important it is if this is true for the next 6 weeks we're going to look at the people who were there who experienced it we're going to see what they had to say and what they walk through if this is true it can change your life not just now but for all eternity. [00:04:54]
Mary Magdalene is our first eyewitness but here's what's interesting is John only records Mary but if we read Luke's version we know that she wasn't alone she traveled with another Mary and another woman named Joanna there was a pair of women who who went out to the tomb early in the morning but for some reason John thought that Mary's account was special enough for us to zoom into it. [00:05:41]
Jesus did for Mary what no one else could he gave her hope he gave her purpose he gave her life meaning and it's important to understand that because right when she is going to the tomb early this morning we have a tendency not to really understand what's going on in her mind as she's going to the tomb she is mourning she is grieving the guy who held the power to change change her life. [00:08:31]
Even in her pain she is still pursuing Jesus it's it's easy to miss this right even in the midst of her worst day right for Mary this was probably her worst couple days her savior the guy who changed her life is gone she's crushed she's grieving the loss of a friend a loved one and yet in in all of that pain guess what she's still doing she's still going to honor Jesus's body with spices she's still pursuing him. [00:09:24]
All Jesus had to do was call her by name and everything would change for her all she had to hear was her savior utter her name and everything would change for Mary and at some level we we we can get this because names have power names have meaning. [00:14:04]
What you have to understand about God is he just loves to walk with you in relationship that he knows your name that he he wants to walk with you and and what I love about God is he's so intricate he knows intricate intricate details about who you are the Bible says he's numbered the hairs on your head that's how relational he is. [00:16:16]
Mary you got to go you got to go to my brothers and tell them you got to tell them you've seen me that I'm alive you got to spread this message to your family and honestly isn't that the same thing we carry as Christ followers as as people who have experienced the power of the Resurrection in our life isn't it our job to take that message to our city and to our world. [00:20:34]
And yet if we're honest so many times we don't carry that message we get busy in life chasing our dreams and our desires and honestly one of the greatest things that keeps us from carrying the message is just rejection what if I tell people Jesus is Alive and they laugh at me they think I'm crazy I mean come on it is a little bit crazy God died and he came back to life that's miraculous that's not ordinary. [00:21:30]
It is not our job to change people's lives it is our job to tell the world Jesus is Alive and yet there are some of you here today who still believe the resurrection is nonsense it's hard to believe God died and rose again that's crazy it's wild it's hard to truly believe. [00:23:20]
Would you just give us five weeks to look at the Historical accounts of the Resurrection the people who were there who experienced it and my prayer is what feels like nonsense to you over five weeks God will show you the truth and it will change your life because there is no invent in history that holds the keys to transform who you are now and for all of eternity.
