And so with all that being said. There isn't a spiritual discipline more important than the intake of God's word. And I get it. You're sitting there. And you're thinking. Here we go. All over again. He's talking to us about reading the Bible. I am. But listen. The purpose of this sermon is to show you how to read it. How to study it. How to live out the things that we're reading. So this morning I want to talk about what we eat. Not physically. But spiritually. Again. Bible intake. About absorbing God's word. Allowing it to nourish you. And conform you. And strengthen you. [00:38:38] (40 seconds)

David's saying, I know what God's word says. I know what's true. I know what it looks like to submit. I know what it looks like to submit to him and to follow him. But he's struggling to do what he knows God would have for him to do. If the standard of God is blamelessness, I mean, I know me, I couldn't give you a day where I could say with all confidence that I've been blameless, that I've kept the law of the Lord perfectly, where I've been wholehearted in my zeal for him. [00:46:59] (28 seconds)

David asks, how can a young man keep his way pure? Go back to verse 9. He gives you the answer right after he asks the question. By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you, he says. That word seek there, it's indicating an active pursuit of God's will. David is disciplining himself. That's why he's asking for the Lord's help with it. He knows he can't do it on his own. [00:50:03] (28 seconds)

How often should we be in God's word if it's the thing that guards us, according to David here? Daily. Right? I mean, if you believe what the word of God says, if it guards your heart, how often should you be in it if you're in the world daily? Daily. Notice what he says, I'll meditate on it. I'll fix my eyes on it. I'm going to delight in it. That phrase there, it's not suggesting he already delights in it necessarily. [00:51:34] (28 seconds)

Cause me to keep it, he said. Listen, if you've followed Jesus for any length of time, I think you can understand that prayer, right? Cause me to keep it. I want to be more consistent than I am. I want there to be discipline, some pursuit of you. Cause me to keep what I know to be good. I'm tired of this spiritual inconsistency in my life. I think you can relate to that. [00:55:18] (23 seconds)

Obedience to the law obedience to the word that is where joy comes from and so how do we get there well if god's word is is a means to our joy and i think again we have to approach it differently than we do just any other book it's not enough for us to just read it i mean look at what he's done for us he's done for us he's done for us he's done for us that's what david's saying here we have to study it he isn't isn't he pleading with god for understanding to cause an understanding in him and isn't he pleading for that it means we have to be disciplined trusting that as we dig into it god through his spirit he will illuminate our mind [01:00:02] (40 seconds)

Listen to the heart of a man that didn't have life figured out, that struggled, that fell into some serious sin sometimes. Again, a man characterized as someone who is a man after God's own heart. Listen to the thing he says changed his life forever. The word of God. When we're in it, when we read it, when we study it, it naturally transforms us and it causes us to live it out.
