Transformative Power of Prayer and Faith
Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound power of prayer and the transformative journey of faith. We began with a captivating story about David Livingston, a missionary whose life was marked by divine intervention and the power of prayer. This story served as a reminder of how our prayers, though sometimes unseen, can have a significant impact on the world around us. We then delved into the teachings from Colossians 3:5-14, which provide us with action steps to access the abundance of God's kingdom. These verses remind us that while we cannot force the supernatural, we can position ourselves to be ready for God's work by transforming our minds and deepening our intimacy with Jesus.
The message emphasized the importance of living in God's unshakable kingdom, where fear and anxiety have no hold over us. By continually casting our burdens upon the Lord, we can remain steadfast and unshaken. We also discussed the significance of believing in our righteousness through Christ, as doubting this truth can lead us astray. The act of speaking truth over ourselves is powerful, as it aligns our thoughts with God's word and creates new pathways in our minds.
We also explored the concept of confession, not as a mere recounting of moral failures, but as an acknowledgment of where we have deviated from God's truth. This understanding of confession leads to healing and freedom, allowing us to live out our true identity in Christ. Through a powerful story of a man named Jim, we witnessed how confession and encountering Jesus can transform a life burdened by guilt and shame into one of freedom and purpose.
Finally, we were reminded of the importance of unity and vulnerability within the body of Christ. By embracing our true identity and casting off the lies that hinder us, we can live in the fullness of God's love and purpose. This unity makes us an unshakable kingdom, ready to impact the world with the love and truth of Jesus.

Day 1: The Unseen Impact of Prayer
Prayer is a powerful tool that can influence the world around us, even when we don't see immediate results. The story of David Livingston serves as a testament to the profound impact that prayer can have. Despite the challenges he faced, Livingston's life was marked by divine intervention, illustrating that our prayers are never in vain. Trusting in God's timing and sovereignty, we can be assured that our prayers contribute to His greater plan. This understanding encourages us to remain steadfast in prayer, knowing that God hears us and is working in ways we may not immediately perceive. [52:33]
"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison." (Colossians 4:2-3, ESV)
Reflection: Think of a situation in your life where you have been praying for a long time without seeing results. How can you renew your trust in God's timing and continue to pray with faith today?
Day 2: Living Without Fear in God's Kingdom
Living in God's unshakable kingdom means casting our burdens upon the Lord and trusting Him completely. This requires a deep commitment to remain connected to God, allowing us to face life's challenges without fear. By continually surrendering our anxieties to Him, we can experience peace and stability, knowing that we are part of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. This mindset empowers us to navigate life's uncertainties with confidence, rooted in the assurance of God's presence and provision. [53:36]
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe." (Hebrews 12:28, ESV)
Reflection: Identify a specific fear or anxiety you are currently facing. How can you intentionally cast this burden upon the Lord today and trust in His unshakable kingdom?
Day 3: Affirming Our Righteousness in Christ
Believing in our righteousness through Christ is crucial for maintaining our spiritual integrity. Doubting this truth can lead us astray, making us vulnerable to temptation. By speaking truth over ourselves and aligning our thoughts with God's word, we reinforce our identity in Christ. This practice helps us resist the lies that seek to undermine our faith and keeps us grounded in the reality of who we are in Jesus. Embracing our righteousness empowers us to live confidently and purposefully, reflecting God's love and truth in our daily lives. [58:04]
"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV)
Reflection: What negative thoughts or doubts about your identity in Christ do you struggle with? How can you counter these with specific truths from God's word today?
Day 4: Confession as a Path to Freedom
Confession is more than admitting moral failures; it is an acknowledgment of where we have deviated from God's truth. This understanding of confession leads to healing and freedom, allowing us to live out our true identity in Christ. By recognizing our missteps and seeking God's forgiveness, we open ourselves to His transformative power. This process not only brings personal healing but also strengthens our relationship with God, enabling us to walk in greater alignment with His will and purpose for our lives. [01:07:39]
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." (James 5:16, ESV)
Reflection: Reflect on an area of your life where you have deviated from God's truth. How can you practice confession today to experience healing and freedom?
Day 5: Unity and Vulnerability in the Body of Christ
Embracing our true identity and casting off lies fosters unity and vulnerability within the church. This unity makes us an unshakable kingdom, ready to impact the world with the love and truth of Jesus. By being open and honest with one another, we create a supportive community that reflects God's love. This environment encourages growth and transformation, as we support each other in living out our faith authentically. Together, we become a powerful force for good, demonstrating the reality of God's kingdom to the world around us. [01:25:05]
"So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another." (Romans 12:5, ESV)
Reflection: How can you contribute to fostering unity and vulnerability within your church community today? What steps can you take to be more open and supportive with others?
Quotes
Our prayers, it can seem like they're not, you know, we don't know what they do. We just, sometimes we hear a story like this and you find out what prayer does, but I just love that story. So prayer is powerful. All right. So last Sunday's service was a beautiful picture of God's abundance, wasn't it? [00:51:48]
All the instructions in the Bible are given to us in order to connect us to the one who can do all those things. So the things that God gives us to do are the things that transform our minds and bring us to a place of deeper intimacy and deeper trust in Jesus. [00:53:29]
Cast your burden upon the Lord and he will sustain you. You'll never allow the righteous to be shaken. So when we can continually, this is on a moment by moment basis, keep giving God our concerns, keep giving God our anxiety, the things that concern us, the things that weigh on us, we will not be shaken. [00:54:45]
We think it's up to us to stay away from sin. We have to try hard to do what God asks us to do, and we think that when we fail, Jesus will be disappointed in us or angry with us, but Jesus doesn't look at our weaknesses and get discouraged or angry. He knows it is all easily dealt with. [00:58:04]
Every time we see attitudes, thoughts, behaviors that aren't kingdom-like, we know from this verse that we can throw it off. We can allow the Spirit to renew our thoughts and change our attitudes. At the risk of being a broken record, one of the main ways we do that is by speaking truth over ourselves. [00:59:02]
Confession is not telling all your moral failures to somebody. When we confess, we are telling the truth about where we have deviated or moved away from what is true about God, ourselves, and others. Moral failures are the result of this deviation. [01:07:39]
So when we find ourselves doing something that we know is not kingdom-like, we have a bad attitude, we're being unkind, whatever that might be, we say, what am I believing that's causing me to act in this way that's unrighteous? This does not gel, this does not jive with who you say I am, Jesus. [01:08:50]
So any fear, guilt, or shame we experience are lies that attempt to draw us into sin, and we need to identify it and let Jesus tell us the truth about it. So do you remember my analogy from a few weeks ago where we're on the football team and we're on the offense, and the enemy is not the opposing team, the enemy is off to the side trying to constantly distract us and draw us into, get us out of the game, get us out of the kingdom, get us out of that unshakable kingdom that we can live in. [01:09:57]
I believe that any fear, guilt, or shame I experience is a false identity. I choose to believe what Jesus says is true about me. I wear my robe of righteousness that Jesus paid for on the cross. I am outrageous. I am graciously loved. Jesus delights in me. I choose to believe what you say about yourself, Jesus. [01:10:29]
When we say something about ourselves that is not consistent with who we are in Christ, he says we're lying. That's a powerful statement, isn't it? And I remember I wrote it down because I thought, I want to remember that. That this is, do not lie to one another. When we say something about ourselves that Jesus wouldn't say, we are lying. [01:11:13]
So I said, let it go. Go. Let it go. Confess. Confess. Confession is just telling God what he's already telling you. That's all it is. That's all it is. And he said, Lord, I've been holding onto this for 27 years. It's killing me. It's killing my marriage. And I knew it was wrong at the time. [01:17:15]
So I love that this all ends with unity because that's what really makes our body here an unshakable kingdom, is when we're connected. And vulnerability is, I know the guys hate that word, vulnerability, but it is a powerful, powerful thing when we're willing to share what's going on and what we need to have help with and work on.
