Transformative Power of Prayer: A Relational Journey
Summary
In our journey to experience God more deeply, we turn our focus today to the profound and transformative power of prayer. Prayer is often seen as a routine or a mere formality, but it is, in essence, a deeply relational act that connects us directly with God. Philippians 4:6-7 serves as our anchor, reminding us not to worry about anything but to pray about everything. This passage assures us that when we bring our needs and gratitude to God, we will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Prayer is no longer confined to specific places or intermediaries, as it was in the Old Testament. The tearing of the veil at Jesus' crucifixion symbolizes the removal of barriers between us and God, allowing us to approach Him directly at any time. Prayer is not about presenting a list of requests to God but about building a relationship with Him. It is simple, not complex, and does not require polished words. God desires honesty and sincerity from us, not perfection.
The ACTS model—Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication—provides a framework for our prayers. Adoration involves praising God for who He is, while Confession is about acknowledging our shortcomings and seeking His guidance to become more like Christ. Thanksgiving shifts our perspective, helping us to see God's blessings even in difficult circumstances. Supplication involves bringing our specific needs and concerns to God, trusting in His provision and timing.
Prayer is powerful, not because it is magical, but because it is a means of communication with the Almighty. It is a tool that God has given us to experience His presence and peace in our lives. As we cultivate a habit of prayer, we open ourselves to God's transformative work, allowing His peace to guard our hearts and minds. Let us make prayer an integral part of our daily lives, creating space for God to speak to us and move within us.

Quotes
Philippians 4, 6, and 7 is going to be our anchor verse here as to dictating what prayer truly and really is. Now we think a little bit about Old Testament Scripture and the people then had to go into the temple and there was the veil. There was a veil that separated God from the people. And you had to go through the minister and you had to follow the right procedures, right? And then what happened when Jesus died on the cross is that veil was torn. [00:01:11] (37 seconds)
Prayer is something between you and God that is relational. If you have conversations with God, if you have conversations with people, Often at work, our conversations are transactional. He said, prayer is relational, not transactional. When you go to work and you need a certain document and you send an email that says, I need said document, that's a transactional conversation. [00:04:39] (28 seconds)
We're not looking to bring this list of things to God that is, here God, take this list and when you're done with it, let me know. I'll give you an A or check mark. It is a relationship building tool that we have conversations with God on our own. Prayer is simple and not complex. [00:05:07] (25 seconds)
The more complex we make it, the more we're trying to sound good and right, that's not what God wants. God is not looking for a polished prayer. What God is looking for is for us to reach out what is on our hearts and on our minds to him. And the last thing is that prayer is powerful. Prayer is not magical. I think of Disney World. [00:06:05] (25 seconds)
But prayer is not this magical thing that happens behind the scenes. Prayer is a powerful conversation, a powerful tool that God has given us to be in relationship with God. So coming out of this passage, there's an acronym, ACTS, A -C -T -S. These are different ways in which we can pray to God and we can pray to God. [00:06:43] (38 seconds)
The T of Acts is thanksgiving, to show gratitude for what Jesus has done. To show gratitude for the things that we have. in our lives. As we chatted last night and we talked about different types of prayer, I think of my dad a lot in this way, especially in gratitude. A friend of ours, mutual friend, had a dog and this dog lived 12, 13, 14 years. It had a great long life. They loved this dog, but the dog had passed away. [00:10:31] (37 seconds)
And they were making the typical post of, we had to put our dog down, just people knew, and you know, the sadness that comes along with that, which is all completely relevant. And every single person who commented on this post said, so sorry for your loss, thanking and praying for you. And then my estranged father, who has a different theory on most of everything in life, went through and commented, not I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm so thrilled for you that you were able to have this dog for so many wonderful years. And this dog meant so much in your life that you have to make a Facebook post in regards to his death. [00:11:09] (47 seconds)
You see, the way in which we view the life that we live, two people can experience the exact same situation and they can have you completely different views on what happened within that exact same situation. I can think of Paula's cancer diagnosis as the worst thing that happened to us in our entire life leading up to our wedding and all the things that came around with that. [00:11:56] (27 seconds)
Or I can be thankful that we found it so early that it has not impacted the rest of our life at all. Paula, she has to take some medicine, she has to go to a few more doctor's appointments. That was going to happen regardless. And it's how I choose to frame how I live my life. And if you choose to be thankful, if you choose to pray to God and be thankful for the things that are happening in your life, to put the anxiety aside and instead of going deep into the anxieties of life, to pray, to come before God and to confess and to give all things in our lives to Him. [00:12:23] (49 seconds)
If you want to experience God in our every day, a prerequisite to experiencing God is to be honest with him. You know, the idea of prayer, I haven't personally audibly heard the voice of God. I've had strong feelings that, show me that God is speaking to me, or have been heard God speak through other people to me. God doesn't need us to pray. [00:15:57] (40 seconds)
