The first reason is that Paul was an apostle and being an apostle means that Paul had Apostolic Authority using that Authority and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit Paul wrote 13 letters of the New Testament being a New Testament Apostle Paul also writes in a way uniquely valuable to us because he also lived and ministered in the post-resurrection church age. [00:00:48]

Paul was a sinful human being transformed by the gospel before he was an apostle Paul was a persecutor of the church who thought that he was doing God's work but then the Risen Lord Jesus Christ revealed himself to Paul on the road to Damascus and when Jesus appeared to Paul everything changed he was converted and he was called to be an apostle. [00:01:30]

Paul was a man of Prayer in Acts chapter 9 after Paul's dramatic vision of the Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus Jesus described Paul to a disciple named ananas Jesus didn't say that Paul was the former persecutor who was miraculously converted but what he did say was interesting he told ananas at a certain house look for a man of Tarsus named Saul for behold he is praying. [00:02:09]

Paul's pastoral heart comes out in his letters and addresses profoundly sensitive and personal situations his prayers serve as a model for us in praying for those we minister to as well people with their own needs challenges and temptations you may or may not have an official Ministry position but we are all able to Shepherd others and point them to the Lord Jesus Christ. [00:02:56]

Paul never lost sight of his conversion experience nor where he would be without the miraculous grace of God in his life this led him to a huge view of God and a great response of humility before God part of the reason Paul worshiped like he did was his understanding of the Old Testament for being a trained Pharisee. [00:03:37]

The first is a wish prayer in these prayers Paul wishes that something would be true for his readers and if Paul wishes something under the inspiration of the holy spirit that makes Paul's words especially helpful for us as we think about praying for others these prayers usually start with the formula may God do something. [00:04:53]

Ephesians 1 3-14 is a glorious unpacking of so many benefits we enjoy in Christ every spiritual blessing election from before the foundation of the world adoption into God's family forgiveness of sins and the Seal of the holy spirit this prayer is to Simply connect the Ephesians head knowledge of those glorious truths with their heart knowledge their everyday life experience. [00:07:25]

The second petition from this prayer is that we can pray to know more of the love of Christ see that in verse 18 what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the Saints the meaning of the Greek of this phrase is somewhat ambiguous it can either mean that we are God's special inheritance or that he gives us an inheritance both are actually biblical ideas. [00:09:16]

The third petition from this prayer of Ephesians 1 we can pray to know more of the power of Christ what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe according to the working of his great might I don't want you to miss how Paul describes this power that is at work within us look at verse 20 with me it says the same power that raised Christ from the dead. [00:10:36]

Pray to be rooted and grounded in love that's the first petition from verse 17 this is different from what we saw in the last prayer what I described as a petition to know the love of Christ this one here in Ephesians 3 is for our lives to reflect the love of Christ to have our lives grounded in the sure Foundation of Love remember love for God and love for one another. [00:16:29]

Pray to be filled with all the fullness of God natural question arises what does it mean to be filled with all the fullness of God well it doesn't mean that finite you can contain an infinite God but it does mean that our lives can be more and more filled with God and all he has to offer us remember as Ephesians 1:3 says we have every spiritual blessing in Christ. [00:18:09]

Paul writes in Ephesians 6:1 19-20 pray also for me me that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel for which I am an ambassador in chains that I may declare it boldly as I ought to speak first thing Paul asks for is Clarity he says that words may be given me verse 19.
