Transformative Power of God's Presence in Our Lives
Summary
In today's gathering, we focused on the transformative power of God's presence in our lives, drawing from Exodus chapter 8 and the story of the plagues in Egypt. We began by inviting the children to experience worship, praying that they would leave with a deeper understanding of who God is. As we delved into the scripture, we reflected on the significance of the plagues, each representing a challenge to the gods of Egypt, and how God demonstrated His supremacy over them. This narrative serves as a reminder that God is above all things we might idolize or place before Him in our lives.
We also discussed the importance of living a life transformed by Christ, using the acronym T.A.C.O.S. to illustrate this journey: Transform, Awareness, Compassion, Openness, and Sharing. This transformation begins with planting seeds of faith, much like a farmer cultivates the land, and leads to a life where we are aware of God's presence, compassionate towards others, open to His guidance, and eager to share His love.
In our daily lives, whether on the baseball field or in our personal struggles, we are called to keep our focus on Christ rather than the distractions of the world. The story of the Israelites' deliverance from Egypt reminds us that God has a plan and purpose, even when we don't understand the timing. We are encouraged to surrender our struggles to Him, trusting that He will replace our hardened hearts with hearts of flesh, ready to serve Him with gladness.
As we concluded, we were reminded of the importance of living out our faith consistently, whether in public or private, and to be a light in every situation. Our ultimate "goodie bag" is the promise of eternal life with God, and we are called to live in a way that reflects this hope to those around us.

Devotional
Day 1: Embrace Christ's Transformative Power
In the journey of faith, transformation through Christ is a profound experience that reshapes our lives. This transformation is not a one-time event but a continuous process where we allow Christ's Spirit and Word to work within us. As we embrace this change, we become more aware of God's presence, developing a heart of compassion for others. This transformation leads to openness and a desire to share His love with those around us. The acronym T.A.C.O.S. (Transform, Awareness, Compassion, Openness, Sharing) serves as a guide for this journey, reminding us that our faith is like a seed planted in fertile soil, growing and bearing fruit over time. [45:22]
Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV): "To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness."
Reflection: What specific area of your life do you feel God is calling you to transform today? How can you take a step towards embracing this change?
Day 2: Keep Christ at the Center
In a world filled with distractions, it is crucial to keep our focus on Christ. Whether it's sports, work, or other activities, nothing should take precedence over our relationship with Him. By prioritizing Christ, we set an example for others and lead a life that is pleasing to God. This focus helps us navigate the challenges and temptations of daily life, ensuring that our actions and decisions align with our faith. As we prioritize Christ, we become a beacon of hope and guidance for those around us, demonstrating the peace and fulfillment that comes from a life centered on Him. [54:34]
Colossians 3:2-3 (ESV): "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Reflection: Identify one distraction in your life that often takes your focus away from Christ. What practical steps can you take today to minimize its impact and refocus on your relationship with Him?
Day 3: Recognize God's Supremacy
The story of the plagues in Egypt serves as a powerful reminder of God's supremacy over all things we might idolize. Just as He demonstrated His power over the Egyptian gods, He calls us to recognize and surrender anything we place above Him in our lives. This acknowledgment of God's supremacy is not just about recognizing His power but also about trusting in His wisdom and authority. By surrendering our idols, we open our hearts to His guidance and allow Him to lead us on a path of righteousness and fulfillment. [52:10]
Isaiah 46:9-10 (ESV): "Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.'"
Reflection: What is one thing in your life that you have placed above God? How can you begin to surrender this to Him today?
Day 4: Trust in God's Timing
Trusting in God's timing and purpose is essential, even when it seems like you're in a prolonged struggle. Just as the Israelites were eventually delivered from captivity, God has a plan for your life, and He will bring you through your challenges in His perfect timing. This trust requires patience and faith, knowing that God's ways are higher than ours and that He sees the bigger picture. By surrendering our struggles to Him, we allow Him to work in our lives, transforming our hearts and preparing us for the blessings He has in store. [49:51]
Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV): "For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay."
Reflection: Think of a current struggle or challenge you are facing. How can you practice patience and trust in God's timing for this situation today?
Day 5: Live Out Your Faith Consistently
Our faith should be evident in every aspect of our lives, whether on the baseball field, at work, or in our homes. By living consistently for Christ, we become a light to those around us, demonstrating the hope and joy found in a relationship with Him. This consistency is not about perfection but about authenticity, showing others the transformative power of Christ in our lives. As we live out our faith, we inspire others to seek the same hope and joy, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond our immediate circles. [58:12]
Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV): "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Reflection: In what specific area of your life do you struggle to consistently live out your faith? What is one action you can take today to be a light in that area?
Quotes
And so one, we want you to know the Lord loves you and we love you here as well. And so you have freedom today to ask questions, to worship, to sing out loud as you have, but to be transformed mainly by the word of the Lord. We had a men's breakfast yesterday morning and our missions director, Barry Barnett, led us in a Bible study. And there's a lot of farmers farming right now, getting seed down, cultivating land. And he talked about how important it is to plant seeds. [00:43:23] (33 seconds)
And in the letter T, thinking about the Lord transforming, when a seed is planted, the Lord tries to transform us through his spirit and through his word. And when you become transformed, A, you become aware of where God has placed you and you start seeing people differently. To see for compassion that that awareness draws a compassion like, man, I hope you know the answer to life is Jesus Christ. And so you start to have this stomach nauseating feeling of, I want you to have Christ. And so you have this heart of compassion. [00:44:16] (36 seconds)
And they said, you're right, he was silent. I said, he was, but he did say something. He said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. As I said those words, I felt like the wind in El Campo died down and all the oxygen was sucked out of that little moment right there. And I said, so I don't want to get mad about a missed call. There were kids on our team that acted better than we did. They didn't care. Like, I want to hit again. Let's go. When do I get to hit again? When do I get to throw again? [00:48:38] (35 seconds)
And as I was reading through the book of Exodus, I started thinking about the plagues that the Lord applied to the Egyptians. I don't know if you know this, but every one of the plagues that took place, the Egyptians had a god over those things. So there was a god over the Nile. There was a god over the frogs. In fact, that idol looked like a half woman with a frog on its head. And they worshiped that because it was like fertility. It was birth. And this is the gods that the Egyptians worshiped. [00:50:03] (44 seconds)
And God is saying, I'm above all of them. And I can annihilate every single one. And so we read a few weeks ago in Exodus chapter six, that Lord said, I will do this and I will come over them and I will rescue you. 430 years, the Israelites were in captivity or bondage. And you would think, Lord, why are you allowing this to linger? Why are you allowing this to tarry so long? Because he has a plan. He has a purpose. And you might be thinking to yourself, Lord, why am I still in this place? [00:51:03] (40 seconds)
And he, time after time, the Lord said, I'm going to show you my power, but you're going to see the distinction between the Egyptians to the Israelites. And you're going to know that they are my people. And so the Israelites maybe peeked out their window a couple of times and looked like, wow, that's bad. I wouldn't want that on me. Boils all over the flesh, the magicians, they couldn't do the trick because they were covered in Boils. Like it was real life real quick. But every time Pharaoh hardened his heart or the Lord hardened his heart. [00:52:52] (44 seconds)
There are many gods that we have elevated above Christ. And this is what you, this is what you long for. This is what you strive after. This is what you're straining for. Whatever it is that is your God, it is come over Christ. And the Lord is asking, when is it going to end? When are you going to stop? When are you going to stop playing games? My kids love baseball. I love baseball. This past week, one of the coaches or one of the dads from our team last year came up. He said, hey man, how's it going? Hey, how's it going? Hey, I just want to say thanks for letting baseball be fun last year for my kid. [00:53:54] (60 seconds)
They're going to know that God is far more important than anything else. And I'll be honest, as a dad who's competitive, as a dad who loves baseball, it's a hard thing to say out loud. Because the question was, are you withholding from your kids by not letting them participate? And a lot of you would be like, yeah, I think you are, Omar. I'm not. The greatest thing I can give my kids is the Word of God. The greatest thing I can do for them is to live a life that's holy and pleasing to Him. [00:55:09] (41 seconds)
A good friend of mine was like, Omar, I feel like I go back to that same verse over and over and over again. Philippians 4, 4 -9, rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I say rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. I feel like I got to read it over and over again. I said, man, let me ask you, what's your favorite meal? Oh, that's easy. Steak, potatoes, and a salad. That's a great meal, my friend. Could you eat that every day? He said, absolutely I could. [00:56:32] (38 seconds)
Lord, I don't know why we make life difficult. And I'm raising the finger, Lord, you know I am not perfect. perfect. You know I fail often. But Lord, you truly came to our rescue. You truly went before us in every way. And Lord, these plagues that these people had to endure, it was painful. It was hard. And Lord, they had a, Pharaoh had an idea. Well, yeah, tomorrow, if you could just pray and let it end tomorrow. Yeah. And then it happened, but then he got hard again. [00:58:04] (53 seconds)
