Transformative Power of Christ in Our Weakness
Summary
### Summary
Good morning, everyone. It's a joy to be with you today. My name is Carl, and I come to you not with great human strength but with a deep conviction in the power of Christ. I have Parkinson's disease, which affects my speech and movement, but my hope in Christ is stronger than ever. Today, I want to share with you the transformative power of Jesus Christ, who can change lives and destinies in ways that nothing else can.
I began by reading from 1 Corinthians 2, where Paul speaks of coming not with persuasive words but with the demonstration of the Spirit's power. This resonates deeply with me as I stand before you, not in my own strength but in the power of God. My life has been a journey of sharing the gospel, even in the most challenging circumstances. From the Congo to Australia, I've witnessed the incredible power of Christ to reconcile enemies and transform lives.
One story that stands out is about a man named Chris, a former far-right extremist who encountered Jesus at a curry night. Despite his past filled with hatred and violence, Chris's life was radically changed by the love of Christ. He went on to lead others to Christ, including those he once considered enemies. This is the power of the gospel—nothing else can bring such profound transformation.
Another story is about my friend Sean, a former soldier suffering from severe PTSD. Through a series of divine encounters, Sean found healing and peace in Christ. His story is a testament to how Jesus can heal the deepest wounds and bring peace to the most troubled hearts.
Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty again" (John 6:35). This promise is true for each one of us. If you are struggling, searching, or feeling empty, Jesus can fill that void. All you need to do is call out to Him, "Jesus, help me," and He will meet you where you are.
Today, I invite you to respond to this message. Whether you want to recommit your life to Christ or surrender to Him for the first time, now is the time. God loves you and has a purpose for your life. Don't wait; make the decision today to follow Him wholeheartedly.

Devotional
Day 1: Embracing Weakness to Experience God's Power
In our lives, we often strive to appear strong and self-sufficient. However, true strength is found in acknowledging our weaknesses and allowing God's power to work through us. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2 that he came to the Corinthians not with persuasive words but with the demonstration of the Spirit's power. This teaches us that our faith should rest on God's power, not human wisdom. When we embrace our weaknesses, we create space for God's strength to be made perfect in us. This is a profound truth that can transform how we approach our daily challenges and struggles. [58:18]
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you feel weak or inadequate? How can you invite God's power to work through that weakness today?
Day 2: Radical Transformation Through Christ
The story of Chris, a former far-right extremist, illustrates the radical transformation that only Christ can bring. Despite his past filled with hatred and violence, Chris's encounter with Jesus led him to a life of love and reconciliation. He even went on to lead others to Christ, including those he once considered enemies. This powerful testimony shows that no one is beyond the reach of God's grace. The transformative power of the gospel can change the hardest of hearts and bring about profound change in our lives and the lives of those around us. [01:16:51]
Ezekiel 36:26 (ESV): "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
Reflection: Think of someone in your life who seems far from God. How can you pray for their transformation and be a witness of Christ's love to them?
Day 3: Healing from Deep Wounds
Sean's story of finding peace and healing from severe PTSD through Christ is a powerful testament to the healing power of Jesus. His journey from a life of torment to one of peace underscores that Jesus can heal the deepest emotional and psychological wounds. No matter how deep our pain or how long we have suffered, Jesus offers us healing and peace. This truth invites us to bring our hurts and traumas to Him, trusting that He can restore and make us whole. [01:27:25]
Psalm 147:3 (ESV): "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need healing? How can you invite Jesus into that area and trust Him for your healing?
Day 4: Jesus as the Bread of Life
Jesus' promise in John 6:35 that He is the bread of life who satisfies our deepest hunger and thirst is a profound truth. This speaks to the spiritual fulfillment that only Christ can provide, filling the void that nothing else can satisfy. In a world that offers many temporary solutions to our deepest needs, Jesus stands as the only true source of lasting satisfaction. When we come to Him, we find that our spiritual hunger and thirst are quenched in ways that nothing else can achieve. [01:17:35]
Isaiah 55:2 (ESV): "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food."
Reflection: In what ways have you been seeking fulfillment outside of Christ? How can you turn to Jesus today to satisfy your deepest needs?
Day 5: Responding to God's Call
The invitation to respond to God's call is a crucial moment in one's spiritual journey. Whether it's a recommitment or a first-time decision, acknowledging our need for Jesus and asking for His help is the first step towards a transformed life. This act of surrender opens the door for God's grace to work powerfully in our lives. God loves us and has a purpose for our lives, and He invites us to follow Him wholeheartedly. Today is the day to make that decision and experience the fullness of life that He offers. [01:30:50]
Revelation 3:20 (ESV): "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you find yourself holding back from surrendering to Jesus? What would surrendering this area to Him actually look like in terms of daily habits?

### Quotes for Members
1. "I don't come to you today with any great human strength anymore. My body is failing, but my hope in Christ is greater than my life. It's greater than any time in my life and I feel an inexplicable joy. And if you, I never used to cry much. I, men have emotions. We get hungry and all sorts, but, and I'm only crying at times, not because I'm sad. It's just in recent months. I've, I've, I've felt an overwhelming sense of God's love as I speak to people. I don't cry when I'm on my own, but when I stand before people, I feel his love for you and, uh, and I feel his strength when I'm feel weak and that's extremely precious thing." [01:01:05]
2. "I have had the privilege through many years of telling people about Christ, of traveling the world. I'm still attempting to do that. My wife was very frustrated that I went to the Congo, for example, a few weeks ago, which was very strange. Stupid. But we got back in one piece. And also back from Australia, preaching the gospel. I've been to some of the world's most toughest places telling people about Christ. I sat in the living room once with an ex-member of the provisional IRA and a member of an undercover unit in the former Royal Ulster Constabulary. In the cellar. I sat in the same living room. They were eating tea cakes with strawberry jam. And I said to them, how can this be? Because I didn't know what they were or who they had been when I was invited to meet the men's breakfast planning committee. And they said, we used to hunt each other on the streets of Belfast. But now we are brothers. And we pray together. How extraordinary, I thought. Nothing in the world can do that other than the message of Christ and the power of his spirit." [01:04:09]
3. "Let me tell you friends if you've been wronged if you've been the recipient of hurt your God my God our God can heal that hurt through the cross it says in the Bible that by his wounds you were healed now I know you might think that's a weird thing for you to say because you don't look very healed but I'll get a new body one day so put that in your pipe and smoke it anyway and so we talked about that and about injustice and how the injustice the wars he fought and the pain he felt could be dealt with we talked about his identity and let me be very clear your identity is not in what you do or the accumulation of possessions or some great skill at bass fishing pain your identity is in the fact that you are a son or daughter of God by Romans 8.15 by the Holy Spirit we cry I have a father know that we're children of God." [01:24:03]
4. "And the minute I said Jesus help me I could hear all the birds in the woods I could hear the birds singing again and we went back to my cabin and he unwrapped the board rubber which had never been used and he wiped it clean and just what Jesus does he wipes your slate or whiteboard clean and he wrote on it John Partridge the son of God the father and friend and his life changed beyond all measure one night he was reliving the terror of battle again and he said an entity appeared in his dream and it was pure love and all the fear and terror went through the entity and he said I've never felt the fear again he said it was better than morphine on the battlefield that's our God and that's our saviour and he can be your saviour too he can give you peace in your heart and help you hear the birds song again." [01:26:36]
5. "I know time is short but would you allow me to just tell you about my great friend Sean Sean lives down the road from me I live in an extremely poor area it's a bottom 1% area of deprivation where I'm engaged in mission with my wife and Sean is a little man and you used to see him walking his dogs and he'd never look you in the eye and I've discovered where he lived and his curtains were always closed anyway I haven't got time to go into all of this but it turned out that he was a sergeant major in the parachute regiment and he'd been in three wars he'd been shot a couple of times blown up a few times he's a bit of a liability actually and he was suffering from major combat PTSD he'd been the sniper and also part of an elite rescue team he was a pathfinder special forces type and he used to go in the heat of battle and pull people out under a hail of machine gun fire he rescued many people and did a lot of damage to rescue people and he watched his best mate get blown up on the Kajaki minefield he couldn't get to him in time and the net result was years later he was sleeping on the floor constantly reliving the terror of battle and he was a broken man we got alongside him and helped him get his war pension because I run a whole load of rescue centres that help people from conception to grave in the poorest of places and so we were able to professionally help him and I built a relationship and after six months I said to him I'm doing this thing I talk about Jesus a lot on Facebook the other day it said talk about your job in a boring way I said I've been talking about the same person for 35 years and I said I do that a lot would you like to come with me and then afterwards I'm going to watch some Christians do Kung Fu mixed martial arts which in retrospect was not a good idea for someone with combat PTSD but we spent all day together and he cried on the road all the way down and all the way back we got back at 2 in the morning at 8 in the morning he sent me a text he'd never been round my house but he sent me a text saying I need to come and see you so I put the coffee pot on extra strong and he came round he'd never been in my house which is important for you to know and I said Sean why do you need to talk to me he said I had a dream last night and in my dream there was a whiteboard standing next to a small chair in a rectangular building and on the whiteboard was written airborne soldier identity and injustice and I smiled because what he didn't know was that I'd just put a rectangular cabin in my garden and I'd bought a cheap chair from Facebook Marketplace for 20 quid it was a bit sticky actually and I'd also bought a whiteboard in which my wife was fuming about because it was 70 quid and I can't write but I knew more because of Parkinson's and my wife said why did you buy it and I said I thought the Lord told me to so I and the whiteboard and the pens and the rubber were still wrapped in plastic I said to Sean you must come to my cabin with the coffee as he walked into the cabin he exclaimed in power language oh my goodness that's my dream and we unwrapped the whiteboard and he wrote on it because I can't write anymore airborne soldier identity and injustice and we spoke for two hours about how the cross deals with all injustice."
