I did fall in love with reading in the eleventh grade and I've never stopped reading since so something happened, mrs. Clanton happened and I don't know what she said or did but there she was a little English teacher in the 11th grade and everything turned on under her teaching. [00:03:48]

I remember reading it and I remember one thing and it was deeply moving this is why I say books don't change your life sentences do he he said with a kind of sigh and ate and almost tears oh that David Brainerd could have seen the world the the wilderness of New England the way his mentor saw it. [00:06:25]

I think the answer why biography is compelling is because it has a biblical warrant got God I mean the main reason you should all I hope you're all at this conference the main reason you're at this conference because you should be asking what's the point of my life why am I on the planet. [00:18:48]

By learning from the lives of others, we can accelerate our own spiritual development. Biographies allow us to experience a lifetime of lessons in a short period, equipping us to face challenges and grow in wisdom and faith. [00:22:41]

I think the most important questions for white evangelicals emerge from the recognition of his flaws because the most important question is why would a man who was liberal probably at that age at least he was in his 20s liberal meaning he didn't believe in the deity of Christ, substitutionary atonement, bodily resurrection. [00:44:29]

The first thing I would say is it no one is helped by whitewashing our heroes your heroes no one has helped it and that that is true of Martin Luther King uh with regard to doctrine and and and sexual morality. [00:43:41]

I think of all of the people that you wrote about and they're a lot of them are similar to you theologically CS Lewis might be as far to the left of all of the 21 men who were in there some folks know that I wrote my dissertation on influences in your life Edwards and Louis the two folks he never met. [00:51:14]

I would want to hear Edwards just as I love him and I wondered how you did I don't think it would be that great I'm told he put his he put his elbow on a cushion held his little notes like this and and read in a in a fairly subdued and the reason he had power was his earnestness and his content. [01:05:35]

I would I would go to George Mueller the orphanage founder who was renowned for answered prayer so that it would be 8:15 in the morning and they didn't have enough breakfast food for the kids and he assembled them for breakfast and expected God to have the truck there and it came. [01:06:57]

I love the living Saints in this room and I love the men who are about to put some of them before us I love Justin and I just feel thankful for this moment and this conference and the gift of the stories of dead strugglers so build our faith enlarge our hope increase our passions extend our our vision for the nation. [01:08:46]

I think your brains were created by God to think with coherence and clarity and you love it when that happens, you don't even know you love it you couldn't even put names on the law of non-contradiction what in the world is that you use it every day yes you do and you want your preacher to not be stupid. [00:57:30]

I think we have time for just one more question before we did just mention this book that we've already talked about 21 servants of sovereign joy, faithful flawed and fruitful at mark Dever suggestion we collected all of these 21 different biographies published over seven volumes and the Swans are not silent series. [01:03:03]
