1. "Lord, as I was talking with some people before the service, we were just being reminded of your faithfulness. That you who begins a good work will carry it on to completion. And God, in some of our stories, it doesn't seem to be true. We're maybe seeing some kids who are wandering away. Maybe it's grandkids. Maybe it's situations that just are not bringing honor to you. Life situations, work situations. I don't know what exactly it is, but we're holding on to that promise. Truly, God, that you who begin a good work, you will carry it on. That you don't give up. You keep moving forward."

2. "Ladders are life, and you just got to make sure that you got your ladder leaning against the right thing because you don't want to get up the ladder and discover that you're in the wrong place. Right? Have you ever heard that? No? You have now. That's an important thing for us to understand. Like ladders get us someplace, ladders can be a stability for us possibly or not. But we do need to kind of consider what is it leaning against? What is this ladder? Where is it kind of taking us?"

3. "Paul actually discovered early on in his life that his ascent up the religious ladder was not all that it should be. And he discovered and recognized and did a complete, complete 180 about face and turn and climbed down that ladder and changed his life incredibly. As we come to near the end of this letter of 2 Corinthians, we're going to see today some of the things that are sort of the internal drivers of Paul's life. Like what really seems to matter to him."

4. "Paul was reminding us, and you may or may not remember, maybe you haven't been around for the series or not, but there was a lot of division in the church in Corinth. There was confusion. There was division. People were following certain people, and they were talking about how Paul really wasn't that big a dude. He wasn't that good a guy, and they were stirring up a lot of controversy around Paul, his position and his authority as he led in the early church."

5. "What a powerful statement Paul made there in verse 14. What I want is not your possessions, but I want you. I want you to understand what I've got to tell you, this story. I don't want you to end up going down the path that I went. I don't want you to be placing your ladder against something that will bring you no peace and no joy, no contentment. I'm not going to be a burden to you. He says it again. Why? Because I want you not a what. I don't want your possessions, I want you."

6. "Paul's heart here, he said, did you hear it? Did you catch it? I'm afraid. I'm afraid for you. those words echo for us today. Paul would be afraid for us. Afraid for what? That we're missing God. That we're missing Jesus. That we're missing the Holy Spirit. That the life that we are living will be one marked by the marks of the enemy rather than marked by the Spirit. That we'll have exchanged the beauty of God's love and grace for a life that is just none of that."

7. "God knows us. God knows how we are wired and designed. He knows what's best for us. And he so desperately wants us to experience it. Again, a conversation that I've had this morning, but I've had how many times over my life just listening to people talk about how they just have kind of, they kind of knew God, kind of grew up with God, but then sort of, you know, wandered away a little bit, kind of like the prodigal son, right? And they went off, and they just decided to try doing things their own way, doing things on their own."

8. "Paul's purpose in life went from self-adulation, climbing and trying to be the top pinnacle of the religious system to where he said, I labor and struggle with all God's energy which so powerfully works within me. Why? That we might know, that you might know the hope of God's glory. Christ in you. Jesus in you. Spirit of God working in and through you. Just completely turned around. Dear friends, were Paul's words. He was fearful that they would miss God's grace."

9. "Paul is, through this letter, has just been opening up his heart in so many different ways just to remind us, to show us, to teach us maybe a new or maybe again of your love, of your grace, of your hope. God, a faith that we could have, a life that we could have, a faith that wasn't built off of our ability to somehow figure it all out, but the gift that you give us. And then as we're kind of facing some of these struggles and these temptations, maybe some of these relational things that were listed, maybe some of these sensual things that are listed, maybe some of these pursuits that are fine and good things, but they're not ultimate things and yet we place them in the ultimate seat of our life."

10. "Paul's pleading for the church, dear friends, take Jesus seriously. It talks about repenting here. Repent, turn. You're never too far gone. You're never in too deep. You can turn. And God can restore you. You can turn and follow. You can turn and trust. But it's our choice to confess, to repent, to receive the restorative forgiveness of Jesus, to have our shame covered by his incredible love. But it takes humility. We need to humble ourselves from a me-oriented life expression in order to discover the life our God intends for us. A life of love for God and a love for others."
