#TransfigurationMoment
“This one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of god in Christ Jesus. So today is the last Sunday after the epiphany, and this is a Sunday where we always hear a version of Jesus' transfiguration. So you just heard the story in Matthew's gospel. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John on a walk up to the top of a high mountain, and Jesus changes before their eyes. Light like the sun pours from his face and his clothes become dazzling white.”

“And so he writes, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus, my lord. And so Paul writes that he's done making the focus of his life to become righteous through kind of a self improvement program, even if it's one that's filled with bible quotes. He is throwing all of that out for something better, to actually know Jesus personally and to trust this Jesus to give him righteousness he never could have earned on his own as a free gift just received by faith, just received through trust.”
