#GodEquipsYou
“``But in spite of that, he has given me this calling. When I face challenges that are too big for me, he is going to give me the ability to do what I cannot on my own. That God has indeed called me, but he has also paved the way for me. That he has given me everything I need to be able to do these things, that I can live up to these things, not because I am strong enough, but because I have a God who has worked in me and in the world to give success where I cannot.”

#GiveGodTheGlory
“But when you look at how Nehemiah talks about his success, time and again, he's using his wisdom, his skill to make things happen, but he always attributes success to God. That was at the end of our reading from Nehemiah this morning when he says that God thwarted their plans. Time and again, Nehemiah says, it's not me. It is God who is making this happen. These obstacles are too big for Nehemiah. He could not overcome them on his own. But he puts his trust in God. And when time and again he succeeds, he always says, we succeeded because God was at work, which is a great comfort to me.”

#InstantPrayer
“Almost immediately after this, he is standing before king Artaxerxes, and Artaxerxes asks him what he wants. And in that moment, he says, so I prayed to the god of heaven. In the middle of a conversation, Nehemiah prays. You have to imagine it's in his own heart and in his own mind, and you have to imagine it's such a quick prayer that it's longer than what he said there or or shorter than what he said there. That it was just a quick, God, help. That Nehemiah, in every moment when he sees a problem, he says, God, fix this problem. you have a plan. And Nehemiah is going to do the best he can, knowing that he cannot do it himself. And instead trusting that God will do it through him.”

#PrayThroughItAll
“And so when you're feeling overwhelmed, you can follow the example of Nehemiah and pray. When you see something going on, when God has placed that calling on your heart, pray. As you begin a task, pray. When you face challenges and adversity, pray. When you meet success, when things go well, pray. When the task is accomplished, when God's work is done, pray.”
