#TrustHisSovereignty
“Friend, there are sometimes and situations in our lives can distort the reality. They can distort who God is. God can seem distant. He can seem blind. He can seem mean. When we observe the brokenness in our world and the consequences of sin, in order to comfort our hearts, we can do as the Psalm does. We can remind ourselves of who God really Our God is creator, sustainer, redeemer, and lord. David reminds us he is our refuge. He is sovereign. He's all knowing. He's full of love and mercy and justice. We can approach the throne of grace with confidence because we know who it is who sits on that throne. We can trust that God is working all things out in accordance with his will, that it's perfect and good, no matter how it may appear at any given moment in our lives.”

#FoundationsShaken
“I imagine he felt like he had no place on which to stand. He asked a great question in verse three when he says, when the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? Have ever found yourself in a situation where you felt like the very foundation of your life is being shaken? It's a great question. What do I do now? But because he was a poet, he doesn't answer the question in the same way. He says, what can the righteous do? But notice he doesn't answer that question at all. His world, his foundation is being threatened. Bows are being bent in his direction. He asked the question, And then verse four. The Lord is in his holy temple. The Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth, and his eyes examine them. David asked the question, can the righteous do in this situation? And then he answers with where God is and what God will do.”

#GodIsInControl
“This feels like chaos around me, and it feels real to me. And then we can remind our hearts of what is true, and we can use the true to bring peace during difficult times. We can say to our hearts, just as the lady saying, this is not a crisis. You can say to your hearts, God is on the throne. All is under his control. This feels overwhelming to me, God, but you are on the throne. All is in your control. Control.”

#HolinessAndJustice
“Because of his holiness, the Lord rightly judges sin. We all know that a good judge punishes evil and does not turn a blind eye. We sometimes over focus on mercy and forget the punishment of sin is right. God's holiness won't allow him in the presence of sin. He offers mercy, but he also promises to deal with those who reject his offer of mercy. The imagery in this Psalm kind of reminds me of Sodom. It's a terrifying image that should motivate us to more fervent evangelistic efforts for the lost around the world.”
