No matter how much God loves us, life in this world is filled with trouble, pain, and adversity. The enemy’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus has come to give us life—real, abundant, overflowing life that surpasses the hardships we face. Even when days are short and suffering seems long, Jesus’ purpose for us is not just to endure, but to thrive in His presence and power. When we feel overwhelmed by the challenges of life, we can take heart knowing that Christ’s victory is greater than any trouble we encounter. [07:40]
John 10:10 (NKJV)
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you feel the enemy has tried to steal your joy or hope? How can you invite Jesus to bring His abundant life into that area today?
Jesus never promised a life free from tribulation, trials, or frustration. In fact, He told us plainly that these things would come. Yet, He also commands us to be of good cheer, to take courage, and to remain undaunted because He has overcome the world. His victory means that the troubles we face do not have the final say. We can walk in peace and confidence, knowing that Jesus has deprived the world of its power to harm us and has conquered it on our behalf. [09:54]
John 16:33 (AMPC)
"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]"
Reflection: When you face distress or frustration, what helps you remember that Jesus has already overcome the world? How can you choose to “be of good cheer” in a specific situation today?
From the very beginning, God’s desire was for us to thrive: to flourish in His presence, to live with purpose, and to be fruitful in all we do. In Eden, humanity enjoyed unbroken fellowship with God and each other, lived out a clear purpose, and experienced fruitfulness in their endeavors. Though sin disrupted this, Jesus came to restore us to God’s original intention—so we can walk in deep relationship with Him, find fulfillment in our God-given calling, and bear fruit that impacts others for good. [23:55]
Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)
"Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'"
Reflection: In what ways are you experiencing fellowship, fulfillment, or fruitfulness in your life right now? What is one step you can take to grow in one of these areas this week?
God promises that those who are planted in His house will flourish and thrive, regardless of age or circumstance. Like palm trees and cedars, the righteous are called to grow strong, bear fruit even in old age, and remain fresh and flourishing. Thriving is not about outward perfection but about being rooted in God’s presence, drawing life from Him, and letting His grace make us fruitful and resilient through every season. [28:56]
Psalm 92:12-14 (NKJV)
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing."
Reflection: Are you intentionally planting yourself in God’s presence and community? What is one way you can deepen your roots in God’s house this week to experience greater flourishing?
Thriving is not the absence of problems, but the choice to move forward in faith despite fears, failures, or foes. Like Joseph in slavery or Moses facing his past, thriving means being faithful where you are, refusing to be stuck, and stepping out even when you feel inadequate. It’s about getting up when you fall, taking intentional action based on God’s truth, and allowing Him to bring life to every dead or forgotten dream. You are alive to thrive, not just survive—so keep pressing forward, trusting that God is with you every step. [43:53]
Philippians 3:13-14 (ESV)
"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
Reflection: What is one area where you have felt stuck or tempted to give up? What step of faith can you take today to move forward and thrive, trusting God to meet you as you go?
It is a joy and privilege to gather with the daughters of Zion, to remind each other that we are not just called to survive, but to truly thrive—no matter what life throws our way. Life is undeniably hard, filled with trouble, pain, and adversity, as even Jesus Himself promised. Yet, in the midst of these realities, we are given a greater promise: Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Christ’s ministry is to override the thief’s work and empower us to flourish.
Being alive in Christ means more than simply existing. It means living with courage, confidence, and an undaunted spirit, even when tribulation and frustration come. Survival mode is a natural response to hardship—just trying to make it through the day, medicating our pain with distractions or unhealthy habits. But God’s will is not for us to remain stuck in survival. He calls us to thrive: to prosper, flourish, and move forward toward our purpose, regardless of our circumstances.
Looking back to the Garden of Eden, we see God’s original intention for humanity: thriving in fellowship with Him and with one another, living with purpose, and bearing fruit. Though sin disrupted that perfection, Jesus came to restore us to a life of thriving. Thriving is not about having a perfect life or being free from trouble. It is about intentional action based on God’s truth, moving forward even when we feel stuck, and excelling in faithfulness wherever we find ourselves—just as Joseph did in slavery and prison.
To thrive is to get up when we fall, to step out in faith despite our fears, failures, or foes, and to refuse to be defined by our circumstances. It is about living a life of impact, influencing others for good, and bearing fruit at every stage of life. No matter your age or what you’ve been through, as long as you are alive, you can thrive. Every dead dream, every forgotten hope, can live again because Christ is our life. Let us rise, give thanks, and move forward, knowing that we are alive to thrive, not just survive.
