God's promises are deeply rooted in His impeccable character and unwavering power. Unlike human promises, which can falter due to our limitations, God's promises are steadfast because they are based on His nature. His faithfulness is the bedrock of our trust, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians 1:9, which assures us of His reliability. This faithfulness is not just a historical fact but a present reality that we can rely on in our daily lives. When we understand that God's character is unblemished, we can confidently hold onto His promises, knowing they will never fail us. [04:20]

Day 2: The Dual Nature of God's Promises
God's promises encompass both blessings and warnings, reflecting His justice and mercy. This dual nature serves as a reminder that our choices have consequences, and God's commitment to us is both loving and just. Understanding this balance helps us appreciate the depth of His promises and encourages us to live in a way that aligns with His will. By recognizing the positive and negative aspects of His promises, we can better navigate our faith journey, knowing that God's love and justice are always at work. [02:05]
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (ESV): "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Reflection: Reflect on a recent decision you made. How did it align with the blessings and warnings of God's promises?
Day 3: The Eternal Power Behind God's Promises
Unlike human strength, which fades over time, God's power is eternal and unchanging. This constancy assures us that His promises are not subject to decay or change. Hebrews 13:8 emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, providing us with a stable foundation for our faith. When we rely on God's unchanging power, we can face life's uncertainties with confidence, knowing that His promises remain true and reliable. [07:40]
Isaiah 40:28-29 (ESV): "Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to rely more on God's unchanging power? How can you begin to do that today?
Day 4: The Everlasting Nature of God's Love and Mercy
God's love and mercy are everlasting, transcending our changes and failures. Psalm 103:17-18 assures us that His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting, providing a stable foundation for our faith. This eternal nature of God's love means that no matter how much we change or fail, His promises remain constant. By embracing this truth, we can find peace and assurance in our relationship with Him, knowing that His love and mercy will never waver. [09:24]
Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV): "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Reflection: How can you remind yourself of God's everlasting love and mercy in moments of personal failure or change?
Day 5: Confidence in God's Unchanging Nature
Confidence in God's promises is rooted in His unchanging nature. As Paul expresses in 2 Timothy 1:12, we can be persuaded that God is able to keep what we have committed to Him, reinforcing our trust in His eternal faithfulness. This assurance allows us to live boldly, knowing that our faith is anchored in a God who never changes. By holding fast to this truth, we can navigate life's challenges with confidence, trusting that God's promises will always be fulfilled. [10:24]
Numbers 23:19 (ESV): "God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?"
Reflection: What is one commitment you have made to God that you need to trust Him to keep? How can you strengthen your confidence in His unchanging nature today?
Sermon Summary
The power of God's promises is a profound theme that resonates deeply with our faith journey. Promises are foundational to our society, whether in marriage, business, or education. They are commitments that bind us to one another. Similarly, God's promises are woven throughout the scriptures, from Adam and Eve to the patriarchs and prophets, and they are central to His redemptive plan. These promises are not just historical; they are alive and relevant to us today.
God's promises are both positive and negative. They offer blessings, protection, and salvation, but also warnings of judgment and consequences for disobedience. The essence of these promises lies in the nature of the promiser. For a promise to be reliable, the one who makes it must have both the character and the power to fulfill it. God's character is impeccable; He is faithful and true. As stated in 1 Corinthians 1:9, "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." This faithfulness assures us that God will keep His promises.
Moreover, God's power is eternal. Unlike human strength, which diminishes over time, God's power is unchanging and everlasting. Hebrews 13:8 reminds us, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." This constancy means that God's promises are not subject to the decay and change that affect human commitments. His love and mercy are from everlasting to everlasting, as seen in Psalm 103:17-18.
In conclusion, we can rest assured that God is both willing and able to keep His promises. His character is unblemished, and His power is infinite. As Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:12, "For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day." Let us hold fast to the promises of God, knowing that they are true and eternal.

Sermon Clips
God throughout the scriptures has made his promises to humanity in general and to his people in particular. God has made his promises very prominent and important throughout the scriptures. God made important promises to Adam and Eve, to Cain, to Noah, to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, to Moses. I mean, I could just keep going on and on and on throughout history. Almost every important person that God dealt with in his whole plan of redemption through the scriptures, he made promises to them. But then there's also beautiful promises to the people of God in general. [00:79:04]
Some promises are positive in their character, their promises of blessing and protection and God's presence and salvation. But some promises are negative in their character, their promises of judgment, promises of cursing if people turn away from God and disobey him. But what I want to talk to you about today has to do again with this idea of the promises of God being true and eternal and what it does is it connects back to the idea of the nature of promises. [00:119:43]
You see, promises depend on the ability of the promiser to perform or to fulfill the promise. You see, ability means character. If promises depend upon the ability of the promises, part of that ability is character. You have to ask yourself, are they the kind of person who keeps their promises? If somebody has a terrible reputation for not keeping promises, then why would you ever enter into a serious promise with them? [00:148:31]
Ability means more than character. Ability also means power. Do they actually have the power to keep their promises? Let me give you an example. Somebody may make a promise. Let's say, I'll just use a crazy example. Here's somebody on their deathbed, they're very, very close to death, and they come and they make you a promise, hey, let's go fishing together in five years. Well, that might be a sweet thing for them to say, but if they did that, you'd kind of roll your eyes and say, I don't think you have the power to keep that promise. [00:180:95]
God has the character and the power to keep his promises. God is able to keep his promises and let's take a look at some scriptures that just remind us of that. First of the character of God, that God is a faithful promise-keeping God. I love what it says in First Corinthians chapter 1 verse 9. It says this, God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Do you see that simple statement? God is faithful and if God is faithful, he'll keep his promises. [00:232:00]
God does not make promises that it is not in his character to keep. Matter of fact, Numbers chapter 23 verse 19 speaks very powerfully about this. It says this, God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent. He has he said and he will not do, or has he spoken and he will not make it good. No, he said God is not like that. God will fulfill his promises because that is part of his character. [00:290:72]
God can make everlasting promises to his people because he really can make good on them because he is unchanging. I always like to go to Hebrews chapter 13 verse 8 which tells us this again, Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He's everlasting, he's not going to change. It's not like God would have the heart to keep his promises, but not have the ability to keep his promises because he's not everlasting in his power, but he is everlasting. [00:444:24]
With a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer. Isn't that true with our God? He has everlasting kindness towards us, it doesn't change. Or I love what it says in Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 3. Ready for this one? Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 3, the Lord has appeared to me of old saying, yes I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you. [00:485:19]
The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him and his righteousness to his children's children, to such as keep his covenant and to those who remember his commandments to do them. Again, let me just read you a quote from FB Meyer having to do with Psalm 103. He says this, God's love does not alter with our alterings or change with our changes. There was never a time when he did not love you, his mercy is from everlasting nor a time when he will love you less. [00:559:68]
We can rest in the confidence that God is able to keep his promises. He has the character to keep his promises and now and forever, God has the power to keep his promises. Let me conclude with one last verse, Second Timothy chapter 1 verse 12 where Paul wrote this, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep what I have committed to him until that day. He is able and we can be confident that God is able to keep every one of his promises. [00:604:24]
He has the character, he's true, he's faithful, and he is everlasting. He will never change in his ability to do that. Let's thank the Lord for that and press into the promises of God. [00:640:64]
