The Transformative Power of God's Word in Our Lives
Summary
In today's message, we revisited the profound importance of the soul and the four friends that aid in its care: the Son of God, the Word of God, the fear of God, and the love of God. We focused on the Word of God, exploring its essence, significance, and the transformative power it holds in our lives. The Word of God is not merely a collection of human thoughts about God but is God's own communication to us, centered on His Son, Jesus Christ. This understanding is crucial because it shapes how we interact with the Bible and the authority we give it in our lives.
The Word of God is described as the "Word of Christ," emphasizing that the entire Bible points to Jesus. This is not just a historical or theological assertion but a living reality that impacts our daily lives. The Bible is God's Word to us, not our words about God. This distinction is vital because it affects our faith, hope, and love. If the Bible is merely human words, then God's promises become mere wishes, His truth becomes opinion, and His welcome becomes a journey without assurance. However, if it is God's Word, then it is a foundation for faith, a source of truth, and an invitation to a relationship with God.
The Word of God, when it dwells richly in us, produces strength against temptation, effectiveness in prayer, wisdom, discernment, and joy. It enables us to be useful to others, teaching and admonishing one another in love. This is the picture of a healthy church, where believers are deeply nourished by the Word and able to minister to one another effectively.
Our responsibility is to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly. This means giving it a prominent place in our lives, not just a passing acquaintance. We are encouraged to immerse ourselves in the Word, allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and relationships. By doing so, we open ourselves to the abundant fruit it produces, sustaining us in spiritual strength and growth.

Day 1: The Word of God as Divine Communication
The Bible is not merely a collection of human thoughts about God but is God's own communication to us, centered on His Son, Jesus Christ. This understanding is crucial because it shapes how we interact with the Bible and the authority we give it in our lives. When we recognize the Bible as God's Word, it transforms our approach to Scripture, allowing us to see it as a living and active message that speaks directly to our hearts and minds. This divine communication invites us into a deeper relationship with God, where we can experience His presence and guidance in our daily lives. [04:17]
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12, ESV)
Reflection: How can you make space in your daily routine to listen to God's communication through His Word today?
Day 2: The Impact of God's Word on Faith and Hope
If the Bible is God's Word, then it provides a foundation for faith and a source of truth. God's promises are reliable, His truth is absolute, and His welcome is assured. This understanding transforms our faith, hope, and love, as we can trust in the certainty of God's promises and the truth of His Word. By grounding our lives in the Bible, we find a solid foundation that sustains us through life's challenges and uncertainties, offering us hope and assurance in God's unchanging nature. [14:05]
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17, ESV)
Reflection: What specific promise from God's Word can you hold onto today to strengthen your faith and hope?
Day 3: The Transformative Power of the Word
When the Word of God dwells richly in us, it produces strength against temptation, effectiveness in prayer, wisdom, discernment, and joy. It enables us to be useful to others, teaching and admonishing one another in love. This transformative power of the Word is not just about personal growth but also about being a blessing to others, as we share the wisdom and love we have received from God. By allowing the Word to shape our lives, we become instruments of God's grace and truth in the world. [22:41]
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you allow the Word of God to transform your interactions with others today?
Day 4: Our Responsibility to the Word
We must let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly, giving it a prominent place in our lives. This means immersing ourselves in the Word, allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and relationships. By doing so, we open ourselves to the abundant fruit it produces, sustaining us in spiritual strength and growth. Our responsibility is to prioritize the Word, making it a central part of our daily lives and allowing it to guide us in all that we do. [35:50]
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105, ESV)
Reflection: What practical steps can you take today to prioritize the Word of God in your daily routine?
Day 5: The Role of the Church in Nurturing the Word
A healthy church is one where believers are deeply nourished by the Word and able to minister to one another effectively. This involves teaching, admonishing, and encouraging one another in the application of God's Word. The church community plays a vital role in nurturing the Word, as believers come together to study, discuss, and apply Scripture in their lives. By fostering an environment where the Word is central, the church becomes a place of spiritual growth and mutual edification. [31:58]
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25, ESV)
Reflection: How can you contribute to making your church a place where the Word of God is nurtured and shared among believers?
Quotes
Let the word of Christ dwell in you live in you richly teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom singing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness to God uh in your heart now I want uh to cover just four things today the first is for us to see what the word of God is then why it matters it's really important for us to grasp that clearly what the word of God produces and then fourthly our responsibility in relation to the word of God. [00:03:00]
Now notice that God's communication with us is described here as the word of Christ it's a very distinct phrase that's only used here and in one other place in the entire New Testament and that's Romans chapter 10 and verse 17 it reminds us this phrase the word of Christ that God's communication to us is all about his son Jesus Christ that's a truth that we often emphasize here at the Archard. [00:04:07]
The whole Bible is one story begins in a garden it ends in a city and all the way through it is about Jesus Christ he's in both the Old and the New Testament of course in the Old Testament Christ is hidden and he's anticipated in the New Testament he's revealed and he is enjoyed but the whole point of the story is that God is speaking to us about his son Jesus Christ drawing us to him and bringing us to faith in him. [00:04:41]
The conviction of the church had always been that the Bible is God's word to us the church believed that God exists and that God has made himself known and that the Bible tells us what God has said and what he has done and that this is God's story and that it is God's word and that it is about God's uh world but the new thinking just about a hundred years ago seemed to turn all of that on its head. [00:07:50]
If the Bible were merely a collection of human words about God that have evolved over a period of time you would naturally look at the Bible and when you disagree with it you would simply say that was then this is now now I want to make it very clear today that this church views the Bible not as a collection of human words about God but as the church has always viewed the scriptures as the word of God to us about his son. [00:10:53]
If God has not spoken his promises are replaced by our wishes see think about some of the great Promises of scripture you open the Bible and we read I will never leave you nor will I forsake you we open the Bible and we read this believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved we open the Bible we read this my God Will Supply your need according to his riches in glory. [00:14:18]
If God indeed spoke these words to Moses and to the prophets we can be sure that God is indeed gracious and merciful we can depend on the fact that he's slow to anger and abound in steadfast love but if these words simply arose from the religious reflections of Moses or David or Jeremiah or Jonah then we do not have truth about God on which we can count for our lives today. [00:16:48]
If God said them then you can be very sure that God is reaching out to to us in love that he is saying come to me and therefore you can have confidence in coming to him and knowing that you can enjoy a true and an authentic relationship with a living God because he himself has invited you to come but if these words were just a reflection of the religious experience of a James or an Isaiah then all that they do is tell us what these men experience. [00:19:21]
The word of God dwelling in you richly the word of God dwells in you richly number one you will grow in strength against Temptation and thinking here of first John in Chapter 2 and verse 14 where John writes to various groups within the congregation and then he has something particularly to say to the young people and so I want to apply this to all of the younger folks in the congregation as you're listening to the message today. [00:22:59]
You let the word of God abide in you richly you will grow in Effectiveness in prayer now listen to these words of Jesus from John chapter 15 and verse 7 he says this if you abide in me and my words abide in you so he's describing the same as uh Colossians is speaking about the word of God dwelling in you richly my words abiding in you same thing if the that's the case he says ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you. [00:26:00]
The more the word of God has an entrance into your life the more you are going to find yourself thinking God's thoughts after him and the more you are thinking God's thoughts after him the more you are going to find yourself growing in wisdom and in discernment you're going to find yourself more intuitively Discerning what is good from what is evil because of the richness of the word of God within you it's a wonderful thing and it will build your confidence. [00:29:28]
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly because it will bear abundant fruit and it is the very word of Christ to you now that leads to the very last thing in these last moments and of course it's simply this what's our responsibility then with regards to the word and it is this I must let the word of Christ dwell in me richly dwell in me that is remain in me stay in me I must seek that the word of God is becoming an honored guest in my life every day.
