The Transformative Power of Forgiveness in Faith

Sermon Clips

Forgiveness is the heartbeat of the Christian life. It is not an accessory to faith. It is central or essential to our faith. Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, commands the believers in Colossae to forgive, to bear with one another, and to follow the model of Christ. This command isn't given in a vacuum. It flows from the grace that they have received. In a divided and often disappointing world, Christians are called to display the supernatural power of forgiveness. [00:56:43] (44 seconds)

This kind of forbearance is not natural. It's supernatural. Let me say it again. It can only be done by those that are filled with the Holy Spirit. And the church wants to pick and choose when it walks in the spirit. You want the spirit to open doors for you. You want the spirit to fight your enemies, but you won't let the spirit help you forgive those who have wronged you. You can't pick and choose when you want to walk in the spirit. [00:58:09] (30 seconds)

He is not saying be a fool, but he is saying that you can let it go without letting them get any closer. Because even though y 'all not in a relationship no more, I still want God to bless you. I still want God to watch over you. I pray God open doors for you. [01:07:04] (17 seconds)

``He forgave past tense. The verb is in the arrow tense, emphasizing that Christ's forgiveness, when he forgave us of sin, it was complete. It was a decisive act. There was no judgment. What God forgives, he forgives, and he does not remind us of yesterday's sins today. Just as Christ forgave you, meaning God forgave us fully, freely, and forever. [01:20:53] (29 seconds)

Thanks be to God that when you and I had offended Jesus, he didn't build a wall. He built a cross and the cross and the cross now becomes a bridge so that people who were enemies with God can now sit down at a table and fellowship and call him friend. [01:24:54] (28 seconds)

Forgiveness opens up the floodgates of heaven to reign and rule on your life in a way that you never thought God could. And God says, I got so many bountiful blessings for you, but you won't let go of what happened to you horizontally. [01:27:22] (20 seconds)

Forgiveness is a choice, and you got to choose today to be free from anything that's been said and done. God, I want to be free. And you ain't got to be in prison to be walking in chains. [01:29:37] (22 seconds)

In this life, you're going to be hurt. In this life, somebody's going to make you burning mad. In this life, you ain't even going to know you could get that mad. And God says, yeah, it happened to you. But now what you going to do with it? [01:31:29] (21 seconds)
