1) "And when Jesus, when he's at Calvary, this is what he says when he's on the cross. And this is coming out of Luke 22, 34. And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Of all the things that Jesus himself could have said while he was on the cross, the one who didn't deserve the cross, the thing that he says is, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. This image in trying to answer this question of who empowers forgiveness, it starts for us at Calvary. When Jesus himself is saying, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."

2) "The grace of God is abounding such that I have been pardoned. All of my debt. And this is why Jesus, when he reads the scroll of Isaiah, is saying that this is the year of the Lord's favor. Because the debt that I have against God, the debt that the world, the debt that the world has against God, the debt that we have against God, is forgiven. It's wiped away. I think Pastor Stephan said this, grace is free, but it's not cheap. It's expressed in the blood of Jesus."

3) "How can I seek forgiveness? This is something that typically, whenever I hear a message on forgiveness that I don't normally hear, which is, and typically when I hear a message on forgiveness, it's always one way. Meaning, it's always, what do you need to do in order to release your own burden of debt so that you can experience forgiveness for yourself? But what about when we are the offender? What about when we need to ask for forgiveness ourself?"

4) "And here's a phrase that a good friend of mine used to say, it's better to be in right relationship than it is to be right. And how often do we want to be right instead of be in right relationship? And a lot of times what we can do in this place where Matthew 5.24 is talking about is, if we're truly honest, if we're honest enough with ourselves, we know what's happening on the inside. We know exactly the complaint that we have against somebody or why it is that we're complaining against either someone or about a situation that's happened to us or something that we've experienced in our own life."

5) "Are you feeling dry in your relationship with the Lord? Are you feeling dry in your spiritual life? Are you feeling stuck? Do you not understand why you can't hear the voice of the Lord? Do you not understand why, for whatever reason it is that when you dig into the scripture, that it just seems flat? I want to propose this morning that it could be possible that the reason that we get in those states is because there is something that we need to fix with a brother or there's something that we need to fix with a sister to be in right relationship with them that we just haven't done yet."

6) "And here's why. Because if we refuse to do that or we say that for whatever reason, we just decide not to do it. And believe me, the reasons that we have for not doing that are very legitimate. I understand that. I'm not trying to dismiss the legitimacy of why we wouldn't do that or why we would hesitate to do that. There is grace in that situation. But us not doing that and us not seeking it out, turns out to be something that gets us stuck."

7) "And here's what I had to come to grips with. That the, what I, the reasons that I was bitter against my father weren't just affecting me. It was affecting my own kids. And it was affecting how I parented. It was affecting how I fathered. And what I realized is, the way that I'm going to be free is through forgiveness."

8) "How should I forgive? And this is where I really want to get things to be extremely practical. So that whatever, because here's the truth. It's not if we need to forgive in our life. It's really when. And whether that is when we need to forgive something else, or whether that is when we need to seek out another person and ask forgiveness for them. Like we, we just aren't that good as people to be able to live that perfect, that we won't have a need to either offer forgiveness or ask for forgiveness."

9) "Forgiveness is not necessarily an event. It's really a lifestyle. And going back to point number one, if we are going to live as people who have received, grace from Calvary, then we need to be, also be people who offer that to the world around us. And that's going to be a repeated process. It's not just going to be a one-time event."
