Prayer is a profound privilege that allows us to communicate directly with the Creator of the universe. It is not a mundane task but an opportunity to be in God's presence and have His attentive ear. Many people may fall into the routine of prayer, losing the wonder of this divine connection. However, recognizing prayer as a privilege can transform our spiritual lives, reminding us of the incredible relationship we have with God. When we pray, we are not just speaking words into the void; we are engaging in a sacred dialogue with a loving and attentive God who desires to hear from us. [02:34]
"For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." (1 Peter 3:12, ESV)
Reflection: How can you rekindle the awe and wonder of prayer in your daily life, recognizing it as a privilege rather than a routine task?
Day 2: Embracing Relationship Over Restrictions
Christianity is often misunderstood as a religion of restrictions, but its true essence lies in the relationship we have with God. This relationship allows us to communicate with Him at any time, experiencing His presence and guidance in our lives. Instead of focusing on what we cannot do, we should embrace the joy of having access to God, who desires a personal relationship with each of us. This perspective shift can lead to a more fulfilling and vibrant faith journey, where the focus is on connection rather than limitation. [03:51]
"And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." (John 17:3, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you shift your focus from the restrictions of faith to the relationship with God, and how might this change your daily walk with Him?
Day 3: The Power of Persistent Prayer
The parable of the persistent widow teaches us the importance of persistence in prayer. If an unjust judge can be moved by persistence, how much more will our loving and just God respond to our prayers? We are not strangers to God; we are His chosen ones, and He desires to hear from us. This parable encourages us to always pray and not give up, trusting that God is attentive to our needs and will respond in His perfect timing. Our persistence in prayer is a testament to our faith and trust in God's goodness and justice. [09:14]
"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." (Romans 12:12, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to persist in prayer, trusting that God will respond in His perfect timing?
Day 4: Trusting the Unseen God
Having faith in a God we cannot see is a challenge, yet it is essential for maintaining a strong prayer life and experiencing the fullness of our relationship with Him. This faith requires us to trust that God listens and cares for us, even when we cannot see Him. By embracing this unseen reality, we can deepen our spiritual journey and find peace in knowing that God is always present and attentive to our needs. Faith in the unseen is a cornerstone of a vibrant and trusting relationship with God. [19:07]
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1, ESV)
Reflection: How can you strengthen your faith in the unseen God, and what practices can help you trust that He listens and cares for you?
Day 5: The Simplicity of Childlike Faith
We often complicate our relationship with God by overanalyzing and intellectualizing it. However, true faith is simple, like that of a child who trusts and believes that God hears and cares for them. Approaching God with the simplicity and sincerity of prayer can transform our spiritual lives, allowing us to experience His love and presence more fully. By embracing a childlike faith, we can find joy and peace in our relationship with God, knowing that He is always there for us. [21:43]
"Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." (Mark 10:15, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you simplify your faith and approach God with childlike trust and sincerity in your prayers today?
Sermon Summary
In today's reflection, we explored the profound privilege and power of prayer, emphasizing how it can sometimes become a routine that loses its wonder. We often forget the incredible reality that when we pray, we are speaking directly to the Creator of the universe, who listens to us with love and attention. This is not a mundane task but a remarkable opportunity to connect with God. Many Christians tend to focus on the restrictions of their faith, seeing it as a list of things they cannot do. However, the true essence of Christianity is the relationship we have with God, where we can communicate with Him at any time and experience His presence in our lives.
The passage from Luke 18:1-8 serves as a reminder to always pray and not give up. Jesus uses the parable of the persistent widow and the unjust judge to illustrate that if even an unrighteous judge can be moved by persistence, how much more will our loving and just God respond to our prayers. We are not strangers to God; we are His chosen ones, and He desires to hear from us. Unlike the widow, we have the advantage of knowing that God is fair, just, and attentive to our needs. The only challenge we face is that we cannot see God, which requires us to have faith that He is listening.
The simplicity of faith is something we often overlook. We complicate our relationship with God by overanalyzing and intellectualizing it. Yet, the essence of faith is simple: to trust and believe that God hears us and cares for us. This simplicity is evident in the faith of people around the world who approach God with childlike trust, knowing that prayer is the most powerful tool they have. As we reflect on this, let us rekindle the awe and wonder of prayer, recognizing it as a privilege and a vital part of our relationship with God.

do you ever just stop and think so just now as I was speaking I wasn't just talking to the air but that the god of the universe the creator of everything actually listened to me I had his ear you know I mean if if I came up to you today and say hey you guys this week I spoke to you know to to George Bush you know or to to Michael Jackson or whoever you go no way how in the world you get him to talk to you or whatever and you we're talking about the God of the Universe I mean does that does that blow your mind that I just spoke to God [00:20:48]
guys being a Christian the the the thrill of being a Christian what a Christian is all about is the fact that all day long I have access to God I mean at any point of the day I can speak to the Creator and he listens to me that's what being a Christian is about is that all day long I just this little little man here on this Earth I get to be with God I get to just just communicate with him all day long [00:220:28]
the Bible is teaching us that I have the ear of of God that that God is Not only attentive when I speak to him not only does he hear me but he wants to hear from me and and that's what I want you to leave with thinking that God the god of the universe will listen to you when you speak to him and he wants to hear from you and so if you leave here and go yeah I hear that but I'd rather watch TV go ahead [00:420:56]
Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up let me read that verse again then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up here's what we're studing today Jesus is going to tell a little story real simple story but the whole point of the story he says because remember a parable is not meant to be real deep it's not to be something we we pick apart and try to figure out every detail it's just a simple story and Jesus the first verse you know the the scriptures tell us exactly why Jesus tells this Parable the point of it is that we should always pray and not give up [00:527:92]
and the Lord said listen to what the unjust judge says and will not God bring about Justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night will he keep putting them off I tell you he will see that they get Justice and quickly however when the son of man comes will he find faith on the earth it's a real simple story Jesus says okay there's this town right where there's this judge and this is a this is a rotten judge okay's he's kind of the ruler there you know but he doesn't like people he doesn't care about people he could care less about your needs and he could care less what God thinks [00:668:72]
what do you think a righteous good loving judge who sent his son to die for you his son paid the price for all of your sins he's crazy about you you think that you're going to cry out to him day and night and he's just going to ignore you what sense does that make why wouldn't he listen to you he goes even the worst of human judges would listen to you why wouldn't God it's it's very similar to to what he said a few chapters earlier remember in chapter 11 when he compared God you know to an Earthly father remember that passage where he says look even you you guys that are fathers here if your son asks you for a piece of bread are you going to throw him a rock no [00:774:959]
and he tells them this Parable because he wants them to keep praying to God I mean because we have so many advantages over that Widow the Widow was a stranger to this judge and and yet In this passage it says that won't God bring about Justice for his chosen Chen ones see I'm not a stranger to God I'm one of his chosen ones that's a term of endearment that's a powerful term I'm not just some little freak creation down here that he goes you know who's that guy trying to talk to me it says that I'm one of his chosen ones I'm one of his hand picked he looks at me and goes man I love that guy I'm crazy about that guy and so when I talk to him I'm not some stranger coming before a God who doesn't know who I am [00:852:199]
we have one disadvantage can anyone tell me what that is what's the disadvantage what benefit that she have that we don't have she could see him perfect that's the only thing right cuz she actually saw the judge and could say hey I I caught his eye know he's looking at me and with God we don't get to see him and so it requires something else it requires Faith right we've got to believe that he's listening and that's why the parable ends there in verse 7 or verse 8 he says I tell you he will see that they get Justice and quickly however when the son of man comes will he find faith on the earth because God's going to listen to the prayers that's not the question the question is not God's faithfulness the question is our faithness is he going to find faith in us is he going to find people who still believe and keep praying [00:1111:48]
we love to complicate things okay this Parable is very very simple it's saying pray okay that's it God's listening to you he's got you ear he's a good judge he loves you he'll hear you that's it we love to just complicate we like to overanalyze things don't we we just like to think them to death you know because it makes us feel smarter more intelligent because you know we came up with a new hypothesis you know about this or that or whatever else and you got to understand most of the world isn't like that okay that that's us and our arrogance most most of the world they're they're pretty simple and and sometimes we need to just get back to the Simplicity of the faith and be like little children and just pray because God tells us and believe and know that he hears us [00:1181:84]
and there was this this lady there who uh who was a missionary and uh and she she she shared one day um she was a missionary to the pygmies okay for 15 years she was a missionary to the pygmy Warriors I thought wow that's that's intriguing isn't it because you know you always hear about I was like wow what is that like but she she she shared about their worship and she said their worship worship was awesome and she says she they love to sing this one song and she goes and it's grown to be my favorite and she read a line from this song of their chorus let me let me read a line from the chorus killing people ruins the work of God Christians shouldn't do it that's deep you know when I heard that it just hit me all over again you go it's it's a lot more simple that we make it [00:1234:32]
you know the first time I I preach in Uganda every time I preach there'd be this line of people that would wait for me afterwards and I remember the first time it happened I remember just looking at this line it just went as far as I could see and I just thought man I'm going to be here all night you know that's just what I thought I just thought I'm going to be counseling one problem one issue after another but it was amazing um because as they came up to me one after another they didn't ask for advice they would just come up and this is what they would say man of God would you lay your hands on me and pray for me that's it they didn't ask for any advice part of me that want to go hey don't you have questions I'm from America I got you know but no in their minds it's like we don't need your knowledge I don't need your advice I don't need your counsel but man of God would you lay your hands on me and pray for me [00:1320:159]
the most powerful thing I could do for you today is is not expound on this passage a little bit more is to come before the Living God and just to pray for you the Bible says that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective and that's all these people wanted from me [00:1429:279]
