Prayer is not like that. It's not that we can practice and practice and practice and practice and get better at prayer, okay? That's not the way prayer works. Prayer is different. You get better at prayer not by doing it better, but by understanding it more clearly. Do you see that? We get better at prayer not by doing it better. [00:05:29] (24 seconds)


We get better at prayer by understanding prayer. What is the power of prayer? What is the power behind my prayer? Where does that power come from, right? That's how we, quote, get better at prayer is by understanding it more clearly. Anyone can pray, and anyone can get better at praying in those terms by understanding it more. It's not our righteousness. We didn't earn it. It's the righteousness of Christ that has been given to us, imputed to us. The righteousness of Jesus has been laid on top of us, and so we are righteous. So our prayers are powerful and effective, not because of our righteousness, but because of his. This word, the words that he uses when he says the church is earnestly praying, it means intently, fervently praying for Peter. It's the same word that James uses over in chapter 5 when he says the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective, fervently, intently. That's the idea here. [00:16:16] (22 seconds)


When we pray chains fall off when we pray other people's chains fall off when we pray that's when we see mountains move in other people's lives I don't think it was an accident but I heard on the radio this week a song by David Crowder I think it's called somebody prayed and here's some of the lyrics from it he says so I hit my knees because I've seen you know I've seen you know I've seen you know I've seen you know I've seen all heaven move. The power that we have in prayer comes through the name of Jesus, who for the joy set before him endured the cross and scorned its shame, meaning he made a mockery of everything that the cross stood for. Shame, guilt, bad choices, just everything horrible, death, all the things that the cross stood for. [00:20:59] (24 seconds)


Thank God our doubt doesn't disqualify God's deliverance. And just because they didn't understand how God could have delivered Peter didn't stop God from delivering Peter. I don't know. They probably said, look, I don't know how God could break these chains and take him through that gate and all the guards and all the things. [00:26:05] (25 seconds)


Ephesians chapter 3 verse 20 says, now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us. Meaning, he can do more than what you're praying for. So those big, grand, amazingly large prayers that you've prayed, he can do more, immeasurably more, meaning it cannot be measured. Pray when you aren't seeing any change. Pray when you aren't getting the answer or the result you think you want. Pray and don't give up. So many verses in Scripture teach us that. Matthew chapter 7, Jesus says, I want you to ask and keep on asking. I want you to seek and keep on seeking. I want you to knock on the door and keep on knocking. [00:36:33] (24 seconds)


Philippians 2, verse 9 says this, therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name. And at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
