Matthew 13:10-17 Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: ‘“You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.” For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”
[38:01]Ephesians 3:3-11 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. To me, though I am the least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Interpretation questions
- Why is it significant that the Pharisees did not simply doubt Jesus’ miracle, but credited the Spirit-empowered work of Jesus to Satan? What does this reveal about the seriousness of rejecting clear evidence about Christ? [38:01]
- Jesus says that parables both reveal and conceal truth. How can the same words draw a person who seeks Jesus closer while exposing the hardness of a person who refuses Him? [50:20]

Application questions
- Jesus’ words are meant to lead people to turn and be healed. Are there areas where you have heard Christ’s words many times but have become dull, distracted, or resistant? What would it look like to respond with an open heart this week? [49:18]
- It is possible to want Jesus to meet personal expectations rather than to receive Him as He truly is. When have disappointment, unanswered prayer, or a changed plan tempted you to question whether you can trust Him?
- God’s plan brings Jews and Gentiles into one body through Christ. Are there people you may quietly assume are less likely to belong in God’s family or less likely to respond to the gospel? How could you take one practical step toward welcoming, serving, or praying for them? [57:24]
- Good and evil coexist in this present age, but God is not absent from the field. Where are you most tempted to think that evil, confusion, or discouragement means God is not at work? What evidence of His active grace can you recognize even there? [59:40]
- Jesus says that no one is spiritually neutral: whoever is not with Him is against Him. Is there any part of life—relationships, work, habits, money, or private thought—where you have tried to remain undecided about obeying Christ? What would wholehearted trust look like there? [40:06]
- Understanding grows as Christ’s words are received, while resisted truth can become increasingly unclear. What regular practice could help you stay close to Christ’s Word this week: reading Scripture, discussing it with another believer, obeying a clear command, or praying honestly about a struggle?
