[Aug 30, 2026] The Blessing

Hebrews 13 brings the summer series to its grand finale with the blessing of God resting over His people. The letter to the Hebrews calls Jewish believers not to go back to the old covenant when pressure, persecution, and fear make the old life seem safer. Jesus has fulfilled everything the old covenant pointed toward, so going backward is never the answer.

The blessing of a godly family begins with seeing God as Father and the church as brothers and sisters. Hebrews calls the family of God to let love continue, show hospitality to strangers, remember prisoners, honor marriage, and recognize every person as an image bearer in need of grace. God’s family reaches beyond the nuclear family into the church, the human race, and even the heavenly family. Christ transforms broken image bearers into people who increasingly bear His image in the world.

The blessing of security does not come from money, circumstances, or a false sense of control. Hebrews grounds contentment in the promise that God will never desert or abandon His people. Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever, even when life changes fast and trouble comes close. Grace strengthens the heart more deeply than religious activity, strange teaching, or an attempt to earn what Christ has already given.

Jesus suffered outside the gate, bearing reproach and sanctifying His people through His own blood. The city of this world is not a lasting city, so God’s people look for the city to come. Christ gives security in the middle of hardship because His keeping power is not based on easy circumstances. His people can say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid.”

The blessing of prayer invites God’s people into communion with the Father through the Son by the Spirit. Prayer includes praise, intercession, Scripture, worship, listening, and meditating on the truths and love of God. Sacrificial prayer leads to a sacrificial life because those who stand in the gap for others become willing to be inconvenienced for their good.

The blessing of the blessing rests finally in Jesus Himself. God equips His people for every good thing through the blood of the eternal covenant and works in them what is pleasing in His sight. Jesus is the favor of God, the grace of God, the face of God, and the peace of God. His blessing meets the deepest needs, speaks to anxiety, gives identity and approval, and brings peace beyond bad news, betrayal, troubles, and fear.
