46s
“``This is not a story of strong faith, it's a story of disappointed faith. And it's it's exactly there that the risen Christ meets them. As they walk, Jesus comes alongside them, but they don't recognize him. They notice what he and notice what he does. He doesn't interrupt. He asks the question, what are you discussing? And they tell him. They tell him about Jesus and the cross and the confusion and the rumors of the resurrection and how they're not quite sure what to believe. And then they say it, we had hoped he was the one. That's the heart of it.”
42s
“Resurrection is not about power over death, it's about presence in the middle of life. And then comes the turning point of the story, at the table when they sit to eat. Jesus takes the bread, he blesses it and breaks it, and he gives it to them. And suddenly, their eyes are opened and they recognize him. But here's what's fascinating. They don't say, great, everything makes sense now. They say, we're not our hearts burning within us, which means something had already been happening quietly and slowly before they even understood.”
