#FearGodNotPeople
“Hasn't stopped. It changes. It looks different, maybe. Jesus says, don't fear the people who can kill or hurt your body. Instead, fear the one who can kill your body and your soul. That might seem not welcoming news. And yet, he assures us that the one who can do that is god, whose attention is given to the sparrow whose attention is given to us because god knows us. God cares for us. God loves us. So fear, when it comes up, shouldn't become our motivation. It shouldn't become the drive behind what we do or don't. Don't be afraid. God knows you. God cares for you. God loves you, and God is able to sustain your life. And give it to you new.”

#FollowJesusYoureNotAlone
“This is following Jesus. It sounds difficult. It sounds scary. It sounds dangerous because it is. And yet we are assured at the same time That just as God's attention is with the sparrow, God knows the hairs on your head. God knows you. God cares for you. God loves you. God is the one who has power over life and death, not the empires of this world, not the devil and his minions. So maybe, just maybe, as we follow Jesus, if we experience trouble because of who we follow, This can be a passage that we turn to for a little hope and a boost of faith because it reminds us that we do not tread anywhere new. Jesus has already walked that road. We do not go alone uncared for because god knows every hair on each of our heads.”

#StandWithJesusNotEmpires
“Take up your cross and follow me to stand against the empires of the world in all ages that don't wanna see anything change, that don't want to see a brighter day for the people who need hope most in this moment, who wanna see some stay rich and some stay poor, some stay powerful, and some powerless. This is following Jesus. It sounds difficult. It sounds scary. It sounds dangerous because it is. And yet we are assured at the same time That just as God's attention is with the sparrow, God knows the hairs on your head. God knows you. God cares for you. God loves you. God is the one who has power over life and death, not the empires of this world, not the devil and his minions.”

#DisruptingTheComfortable
“I can see how Jesus' teachings in his sermon on the mount, I can see how his open welcome of the tax collector and the sinner, his healing of those who should make him unclean by his very touch. I can see how that certainly excites some and draws many to him, but at the same time, the people who are just comfortable enough with the way things are. Don't become amazed. Don't follow dropping their nets like Peter and Andrew and James and John, but instead they start to call him the devil, or they plot to conspire to get him arrested, to stone him, to kill him, to get him gone because he's disrupting the status quo, and under the status quo, they are just comfortable enough that any change might make them uncomfortable.”
