Sunday Message - The Spirit of Wisdom and Guidance

Jesus’ words in John 16 land on the night before the cross, which makes them hit different. Jesus says, “It’s better for you that I leave,” because his departure brings the Friend, the Holy Spirit, to dwell with every believer from the inside out. God’s dream has always been close fellowship with humanity, and the era of the Holy Spirit is not a lesser substitute for Jesus in the flesh. The Holy Spirit makes the presence of Christ available deeply and intimately in the church and in ordinary disciples everywhere.

The name Parakletos gives the Holy Spirit a big job description. The Holy Spirit comes alongside as helper, comforter, wise counselor, guide, advocate, champion, and friend with a capital F. The Holy Spirit does not merely assist from a distance, like a little buddy; the Holy Spirit stands beside God’s people, fights in their corner, and leads them toward Jesus.

The Holy Spirit exposes the godless world’s error about sin, righteousness, and judgment. Sin comes into the light whenever a person, a church, or an institution recognizes harm, turns from self-rule, and seeks forgiveness and redemption. Conviction also comes into redeemed hearts, where wounded words, hidden pride, and crooked motives need to be named. The Spirit’s light never exposes sin just to humiliate someone; the Spirit exposes sin so repentance can draw that person nearer to Jesus.

Righteousness comes from above, beyond human control, because Jesus alone is truly righteous. The Holy Spirit does not make a big deal of himself but puts the spotlight on Christ. Every genuine movement of the Spirit directs affection, attention, worship, and hope toward Jesus, especially toward the place where Christ has given himself for the world.

Judgment becomes comfort for those who have seen evil up close. The Holy Spirit expands spiritual imagination beyond a day, a week, or a month and assures suffering people that evil will not prevail forever. God will make all things right, make all that is good more beautiful, and cast all that is evil into the garbage heap of history.

The Spirit of truth guides believers not merely into truth but within truth. Discernment means learning to know and do God’s will amid a world packed with noise. The ego, the Internet, custom algorithms, advertisements, and the devil all compete for the final word, but none of them gets it. The Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ, who paid it all and gave it all in love, will have the final word.
