Sunday Morning Service: 8/30/2026 [My Neighbor]

The call to love a neighbor moves from knowing why and who into the real question: what does someone actually say when the door opens? God’s love does not stop with the person who receives it. God pours that love in, and it is meant to pour out toward classmates, coworkers, people across town, and even the stranger God puts on the highway of life.

The burden for people drives fear out. The burden begins when Christ becomes real, just as concern for a grandfather’s relationship with God became real for a nine-year-old child who had just asked Jesus into his heart. Prayer carries that burden before God, and the Holy Spirit does His part when the moment comes. Luke 12:12 promises that the Spirit will teach believers what to say, sometimes right there in the moment.

Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 9 call believers to adapt and connect. Paul became all things to all people so that by all means he might win some. Connection does not mean changing the gospel. Connection means meeting people where they are, speaking in language they understand, and paying attention to the conversation God has already put in front of them.

The conversation framework moves from external to internal to eternal. External conversations begin with everyday life: sports, work, family, food, money, or whatever connects two people. Internal questions ask what someone thinks and feels, using open-ended questions instead of easy yes-or-no answers. Eternal conversations gently turn toward what matters forever: life, family, purpose, security, and a relationship with Christ.

The believer’s own story becomes a powerful part of that conversation. Jesus is the hero of that story. A person can tell what life was like before Christ, how Christ was received, and how He has changed life since then. That testimony belongs to the believer, and it cannot be argued away.

The bridge illustration makes the gospel plain. God desires people to be with Him, but sin separates every person from God. Human effort cannot jump the gap, because all have sinned and fall short. Christ died for sinners, and His cross becomes the bridge from separation to God. The response is to receive Christ, believe in Him, confess Him as Lord, and open the door as He knocks.

The four spiritual laws say the same truth in a simple way: God loves people, people live apart from God, Jesus gave everything for them, and every person has a choice. Salt belongs where salt is needed, and light belongs in dark places. The call is not to sit back and wait.
