Acknowledging our own limitations and areas of weakness is not a sign of failure, but an invitation to experience God's power. Just as Jesus grew and was strengthened, we too can grow and be strengthened by Him. This journey of growth begins with humility, recognizing that we cannot achieve everything on our own. By laying our lives, plans, and anxieties at His feet, we open ourselves to His strengthening presence. [00:48]
Luke 2:52 (ESV)
And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
Reflection: In what specific area of your life do you feel a sense of weakness, and how might acknowledging that weakness be the first step toward inviting God's strength into it?
Growing stronger in our faith involves being filled with the knowledge of God's will, not just accumulating facts, but gaining wisdom and understanding. This knowledge is not an end in itself, but a means to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, bearing fruit in every good work. Just as the "The More You Know" campaign taught valuable lessons, God's Word offers profound truths that empower us to live out His purposes. [07:31]
Colossians 1:9-11 (ESV)
And so from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Reflection: What intentional steps can you take this week to deepen your knowledge and understanding of God's Word, moving beyond passive listening to active engagement?
Our physical well-being is essential for fulfilling the work God has called us to. Just as Elijah was fed by an angel for a long journey, we too need to be nourished and rested to sustain us. Recognizing moments of hunger, exhaustion, or loneliness as "HALT" moments can help us address our physical needs, allowing us to be more effective in serving God. Caring for our bodies is not a distraction from spiritual pursuits, but a vital component of being strengthened for the journey. [20:01]
1 Kings 19:7 (ESV)
The angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.”
Reflection: Considering the demands of your week, what specific, life-giving rhythm of rest or nourishment can you intentionally incorporate to strengthen you for the journey ahead?
True strength is not found in our own might or power, but in the Spirit of the Lord. Waiting on Him through prayer allows God to work in us, renewing our strength and enabling us to run and not grow weary. In the midst of spiritual battles, prayer is not passive but an active engagement with the One who has ultimate power and control, fortifying us to stand against the schemes of the enemy. [25:20]
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Reflection: Where in your life do you tend to rush ahead, and how might intentionally waiting on the Lord in prayer this week change your approach and strengthen your resolve?
We are not meant to grow alone; our strength is amplified when we are forged in community. Like iron sharpening iron, our relationships with others, especially within the church, refine us and help us grow into the image of Jesus. By opening ourselves up to trusted individuals, we can confess our fears, receive God's grace, and be strengthened to overcome challenges together. [30:48]
Proverbs 27:17 (ESV)
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Reflection: Think of a specific relationship within your church community. How can you intentionally engage with that person this week to sharpen one another and grow stronger together in your faith journey?
Parishioners are invited into a vision for 2026 that centers on becoming stronger in Christ in order to multiply his kingdom through healthier families and a healthier church. Growth is framed not as frantic activity but as four disciplined pursuits: growing in knowledge of God’s will, being fed physically for the journey, cultivating a life of prayerful waiting, and being forged in honest community. Scripture anchors each pursuit — Colossians on being filled with spiritual wisdom, Elijah’s story on God-sent sustenance, Isaiah and Zechariah on waiting and dependence, and Proverbs and Ecclesiastes on the necessity of companions who sharpen one another.
The approach is practical and pastoral: develop regular rhythms of Bible engagement and study groups, prioritize real rest and sensible physical care so the body can endure kingdom work, embrace prayer that waits on God rather than frantic self-reliance, and enter the refining heat of relationships that hold one accountable and offer mutual care. Humility is a recurring theme — becoming a disciple means admitting weakness and cultivating hunger for more of God’s truth. Growth resembles Jesus’ own life: he increased in wisdom, stature, favor, and relational depth; followers are invited to follow that pattern.
There is also a pastoral warning against shallow inputs — empty internet arguments, unexamined cultural noise, or superficial fellowship — and an encouragement toward formative practices: small groups, theology classes, the Daily Focus, confession within trusted relationships, and sacramental rhythms like communion as means of receiving strength. The vision culminates in a practical invitation called the “four square challenge”: name intentional steps to grow mentally, physically, spiritually, and relationally so that individual strengthening becomes the soil for multiplying Jesus’ presence through families and the church. This is framed as urgent but doable: not by human might, but by the Spirit, as people together wait, learn, rest, pray, and refine one another for mission.
That what you need isn't a better plan, it's not a coach, like these things can be helpful, but ultimately what you need is to be fed with God's word. You need more of Jesus. That is actually what helped Jesus overcome. Jesus quoted this verse. He quoted. He was strengthened by God's word when he was fasting and hungry in the desert being tempted by Satan himself. And he said, no, no, no. I don't need to eat right now. What I really need is God and his word. And he was strengthened to be able to stand up against temptation even when he was weak.

There's sometimes we over spiritualize stuff, okay? Elijah was hungry. Elijah needed to rest and the angel comes and says, here's what I want you to do. Eat something. Okay? Anybody else get hangry? Okay? We get these moments where we're hangry, we're exhausted, we're lonely, we're tired, whatever it is. I I call those halt moments. If you're hungry, angry, lonely, and tired, look out.

in god's will. This is what Proverbs thirteen twenty says. Part of this actually comes by who you walk with. Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. I mean no disrespect to your group of friends or your social media feed or your news channel of choice, whatever that is, okay? But many of us spend much of the week, maybe not all of it, but much of the week walking with fools. Some of y'all are like, amen, you know? Alright? So don't look around the room, don't look around, it's like, mhmm. Okay. Many of us spend a lot of the week, it was just constant foolish input coming out.

Ecclesiastes four says that two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. Verse 12 says, though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. We don't grow alone.

We're not leaving anybody behind. We're, hey, I'm gonna pick you up and we'll walk with you. We'll slow down but we're not just gonna stop because we're receiving power, being strengthened for mission to multiply and it's only as we're refined and purified in him and as our church begins to look more like Jesus that we're able to multiply him. I don't wanna multiply Dave. I wanna multiply Jesus to the nations, to the next generation, to my neighbors. That's who that's who the world needs. And it says we're strengthened in him that we're able to multiply him. In 2026, we're gonna be strengthening the family to multiply.

To walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. Sometimes especially in church, we get hooked up on, I went to a bible study. We're going through a curriculum. I I listened to a podcast. I I I I listened to another message. I read a spiritual Christian book, self help section or something and we get very obsessed with knowledge. But this prayer is not only that we would be filled with knowledge, but it's knowledge so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened all power. There is something about being filled with knowledge that actually strengthens us to be able to walk out what God's will is. But if we're going to walk it out, we have to know it first. It's knowledge and understanding so as to walk.

You're physically weak and Satan knows it. He's gonna try to do something right now. Sometimes what you need like, I'll I'll get at it with Gwen, my wife. Sometimes it's like, you know what? You're tired, Dave. Shut your mouth. And go to bed. Okay? That's what you need to do. You need to make yourself a little snack or something. Let's make a sandwich because we need to be fed for the journey. What god has for us is quite frankly too much. If you're doing important work, the stuff that like you're called to do, we are called to work that matters. And God has given us bodies that actually need to be fed if we're going to do them. You're not much used to the kingdom if you cannot move.

We'll fight on our knees in 2026. That's how we grow in favor with God. Zechariah four six says, not by might nor by power, but by my spirit says the Lord of hosts. It's not like by our own strength.
