#FaithGrowsInTheCurves
“And the truth is our faith can be like this. If it was straight and easy, to be honest, we wouldn't grow much. We wouldn't trust much. There's really nothing for us to do. We become lazy, we become tired, but the trials bring curves and bends and challenges that cause us to be alert, to develop, to grow, to trust God no matter what's going on in the situation. Our faith is not a straight road and thank God for that because it's in the curves and bends that God uses it to mature our faith. And it's in that that we should be joyful because it's there that our faith has matured. It's where we develop perseverance. It's it's there that God does some of his best work in our lives.”

#SeekWisdomStayHumble
“And the way we become joyful in the trials is what James taught the early church and it's still true today. It's through seeking God's wisdom, staying humble, and seeing the bigger picture. So, my encouragement for you and me today in this weekend is this, is we follow what James is saying. When we face trials, though, we simply say a simple prayer. God, grant me wisdom, keep me humble, and keep my eyes on the prize.”

#JoyAmidTrials
“So he's reminding of this. There will be trials in life, James says. It's not an if but a when. There will be struggles and tensions and sin and barriers and brokenness and more. And James teaches us to be joyful and that to to deem it something that we should be joyful about. Now, to be clear, joy doesn't mean put us fake a smile every single day. There are tears in the midst of joy. There is hurt in the midst of joy. There is struggle in the midst of joy, but what joy brings us is the reminder that Jesus has already taken care of what we need him to.”

#HumbleDependenceOnGod
“And humility helps us rely on God more and more. The good news is that Jesus brings us, what Jesus brings us is not that we can do this on our own. What his good news tells us is this, is you and I can't do this on our own. And that's the good news of Jesus because he takes it on for us. So, that's where our hope is, that's where our trust is, not in worldly possessions but to stay humble and be reminded daily that we cannot do this apart from God. We can't follow Jesus without the humility to know that we need him in every aspect of our lives, that it's not our ways, it's his.”

#HopeBeyondStuff
“Because often, and and I'm sure you've been there, when we face trials, especially when it comes to trials of of daily struggle, we instantly think that the solution to our trial is more stuff, more money, more resources, more comfort. But the truth is that that's not the solution to our trials. Trials actually remind us not to trust in worldly possessions because they will fade in the end. Because money comes and goes, the car breaks down, jobs change, and these things in our lives are not meant to be the source of our hope.”

#TrustGodsWisdom
“That misses the point. If we go to God and seek this wisdom from him, we need to ask him because he's gonna give it, but we need to trust that he's actually gonna give us what he's asking, what we're asking for. This is the generous God that we trust and serve and follow. This is the doubt that James is saying we have to avoid in this situation. So, when we face trials, this is a good place to start. And here's what I encourage you to do is when you're facing a trial, start with a prayer that simply says, God, grant me wisdom. And trust that he's gonna give you that wisdom.”

#JesusNotPossessions
“They are not meant to be the foundation of our faith. Only Jesus should be the source of our hope. Only Jesus should be the foundation of our faith. So, the midst of trials, James reminds us to stay humble, to not seek our comfort as as a solution, but to trust God in the midst of it all. And it's here that our faith becomes more whole, and that's the goal.”

#AskForWisdomNotKnowledge
“So James is not going to win an award for kind words in this letter, obviously. But he does win for being just honest, and he's blunt. And I can appreciate being honest and blunt in these situations because for joy to be our response in the trials, for joy to be your reaction when things get difficult, when you have difficult moments in life, we need to ask for wisdom, he says. In our trials, we should go to God if we don't know what to do and simply ask for wisdom. And to be clear, James is instructing us to ask for wisdom, not knowledge. Listen, we can gain all the knowledge in the world. We can read all the books and know all the answers, but if we don't know how to put that knowledge to use what we're really lacking, is wisdom.”
