Psalm 145 gives God’s people a clear mandate: “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts.” David does not treat the works of God like a private memory or a nice family tradition. David treats the greatness, goodness, mercy, compassion, and power of God as the one story worth carrying from one generation to the next.

Lego, Pokémon, and Spider-Man become plain examples of how stories get passed on when people are gripped by them. A brick, a creature, or a hero can move across decades because someone says, “No, no, no. You need to see this.” The instinct to pass something on is not just marketing or nostalgia. The instinct reveals that joy, wonder, and meaning naturally move from one set of hands into another.

Psalm 145 says the works of the living God deserve that kind of intentional carrying, only infinitely more. God’s story is timeless, timely, and still speaking. God acted before, God has acted personally in redeemed lives, and God is acting right now through unfinished people. The vision is not only something to know. The vision is something to carry.

The responsibility to tell that story starts personally. The next generation will either know God, or it will not. The knowing of God is handed over through telling, remembrance, testimony, and praise. “Faith in God is only one silent generation away from being unknown or forgotten.” Exodus shows a king who did not know Joseph and oppressed God’s people. Judges shows God’s own people becoming a generation that did not know the Lord or the works he had done for Israel.

The danger is not always loud rebellion. The danger often comes through comfort and conformity. A full calendar, a comfortable life, and the pressures of the world can quietly choke out the telling. The telling stops, remembrance fades, and people who already had an inheritance start empty handed for no reason.

Psalm 78 gives the fruit of faithful telling: children yet unborn set their hope in God. The dinner table becomes a pulpit. The lunch table, the school bus, the break room, and bedtime become pulpits too. God does not require a polished myth that makes people look impressive. God uses the real testimony of a real person, messy and redeemed, to reveal a real Savior.

Ephesians 1 names the inheritance: adoption, forgiveness, every spiritual blessing in Christ, the Spirit as the guarantee, and a life purchased for praise and glory. God’s people have a story to tell because the story of Jesus gives every redeemed life its true story.
