#FillYourFlask
“So I'll ask you what Anna asked a room full of nervous seminary students a long time ago. What fills you up spiritually when you run dry? Where do you find God? And what would it take for you to carry enough oil that you're not caught empty handed when the shout goes up? Answer that, and then go fill your flask. There is no Photoshop shortcut for a life of faith.”

#BuildYourOwnPeace
“There are some kinds of preparation we can only do for ourselves. There are some reserves that no one else can build up for us. You can't borrow someone else's peace or passion for God. You can't say to your friend, you have such a happy marriage, don't you? Could you give me some of that? It doesn't work. You have to find it yourself. You have to figure out what fills you up spiritually, and then make sure that you have some to carry with you every single minute of the day because that's how often you'll need it.”

#OneDayIsToday
“Time will run out. The hour gets late. We all put it off saying, one of these days I'm going to quit working so hard and put in the quality time with my kids or my grandkids. One of these days I'm going to take up painting again. One of these days I'm going to stop just writing checks and actually get involved at the shelter. We all do this. We all put it off, and then the shout goes up. He's coming. It's time. And all of a sudden, one of these days is today, and it's over. And you never did bring your flask of oil.”

#DontFakeTheFlame
“No one watching had any idea, but, of course, as I watched the recorded worship service, I couldn't look at anything but the fake flames. Now we'd like to think that the same trick works for us, wouldn't we? That when the light goes out and we've got nothing left to give, we fake it. We Photoshop our lives to look full of flame. We grind a little bit longer. We run on empty and hope no one notices.”
