#ShrewdSonsOfThisWorld
“``And then Jesus gives us the application for this. He says to us in his closing remarks, he essentially says the central lesson here in Jesus in verse eight there, he says, the sons of this world are more shrewd in their dealing with their own generation than the sons of life. And that is a very kind of roundabout way and and kind of complex sentence to say essentially. Worldly people in this world are better at being worldly than Christians are at being Christian.”

#TreasureInHeaven
“And that's what Jesus ends this passage on. He ends this passage by telling us and reminding ourselves that our treasure is in heaven. That which matters is what matters for eternity. That we should be devoted to that which is eternal and from God himself. And so, yes, he ends this by telling us that you can only have one master, that you cannot have one foot in this world and one foot in eternity. That if you try this, you could try to straddle both and be like, I'll I'll try to enjoy this life and and try to be focused on this life and and, yeah, maybe I'll focus on the things of eternity when it matters. If I try to kinda be in the middle here, you're gonna end with nothing. He says, you can only have one master.”

#ChooseWhatLasts
“I've been on many people's bedside while they died, and nobody on their bedside is like, man, I really wish, really wish I watched one more football game. I mean, I I like watching football games, but the things that I regretted are those things I really wish I spent more time with my family. I really wish I spent more time making sure I was right with God, making sure that relationship was right. And so that's what Jesus here is saying here. He's telling his listeners that we need to focus on what will last, not just the temporary thing.”

#EternityOverPleasure
“And the people of this world who have no notion of things beyond this world are easily to just focus on the things that are right in front of them. And Jesus says that's what they do. And they're better at that than we are at focusing on eternity. They're more clever, forward thinking, diligent regarding these short term temporary things than saints are by focusing on the things that matter. We will spend oftentimes 20 times more effort, time, yes money, on our pleasures, on our hobbies, on our sports, on our garden, all these things of this world than we do on praising God, prayer, church, the things that matter for eternity.”
