The law reveals our guilt. It's revealing her guilt here. It reveals our guilt. We live in a world today where people do not like to admit guilt. Let's be honest, who likes to admit guilt? And we make all the excuses, we soften our language. Hey, it was a mistake, it was an accident. [00:11:29]

The standard of God is the standard. The standard of God is a standard absolutely, and by that standard, we are sinful. No doubt, horribly sinful. Do you hear me? And the law reveals our guilt. In fact, let's do this, let's illustrate this, shall we? Let's illustrate this. [00:12:37]

Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us. Because until we see ourselves as sinners, we won't see ourselves in need of a savior. We're sinners. We have to see that the law reveals our guilt. [00:16:55]

The good news is this: though it doesn't end with the law, there's more to the story. So back to the story, let's go to verse six here, okay, picking up. So they've brought this woman ahead of them, they tried to trap Jesus, and they say, hey, are we going to stone her or not? [00:19:20]

Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. And when they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, hey, let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. [00:22:41]

The light reveals our hope. I want to show you how this happens. The light reveals our hope. Again, as our Bibles are laid out, as our Bibles are laid out, the story of the woman that's caught in adultery would just look like is placed right up against this I am statement of Jesus. [00:31:34]

Jesus says, I am the light of the world. There's a light, he says, it's going out from me that doesn't just touch this Temple Courtyard, doesn't just touch this Temple mount. It goes up beyond Jerusalem through the whole world. It reverberates across the globe, it reverberates across history. [00:35:05]

The light of the world becomes the light of her world, no longer being a concept, no longer being a platitude. He becomes personal. And I want you to tell you this this morning, no matter how dark your world may seem right now, he is the light. [00:35:52]

His light can illuminate your darkness, his grace can forgive your sins, his presence can bring healing to your shame, and you are never the same again. Because when the light of the world becomes the light of your world, what happens? You follow him, you follow Jesus. [00:36:57]

The Bible teaches us this: if we walk in the light as he is in the light, the blood of Jesus, his son, it purifies us from all sin. Jesus says if the son has set you free, you will be free indeed, no longer condemned by your accuser but free to go now to leave your life of sin. [00:38:22]

The light reveals our hope. Let the light in. I want to pray for those who are standing. God, so many people around the room standing expressing their faith boldly. I thank you, Lord. I know you see them. I know you know their names, you know their story. [00:41:45]

The love of Jesus reveals your grace to us. Thank you for the Light of Christ which shines all over the world and reveals your hope to us. I pray, Lord, that every person who's standing right now, that you would touch them with this grace, with this hope. [00:42:48]
