so continue steadfastly in prayer Be watchful in it and do it with Thanksgiving and now we turn to see what we can learn about Paul's request that he be prayed for praying at the same time so include me in all of your prayers pray praying at the same time also for us now this refers of course to Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God and Timothy [00:33]

just let it sink in that Paul is the greatest Theologian the greatest missionary perhaps who has ever lived and he is asking Ordinary People to pray for him praying at the same time also for us so that these things would happen let me just point you to this passage in Romans because I think it describes how prayer functions for Paul [02:33]

I appeal to you Brothers by our Lord Jesus Christ that by the love of the spirit and by the love of the spirit to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf so he considers prayer to be a striving together with me so I wish I could draw this I wish I wish I could draw Paul pushing a cart or pulling a rope or climbing a wall [03:14]

he considers the the prayers of the brothers to be like putting their shoulder to the same boulder or pushing him up the wall or helping him in any way he needs help this is not like simply I I have a single request I ask you to pray oh thank you that prayer got request got answered this is rather a steady state struggling striving together with me [04:38]

prayer asks God to do something don't ever lose sight of the fact that when you're asking for something to happen I've heard people say oh God allow them to get home safely I I I almost hate that word allow in prayer it has such a weird sound to me no you're asking God to do something not let something be done by somebody else [05:21]

open a door in this case so open a door means he's in prison so it might mean get me out I want to preach or we learned from Philippians chapter 1 there's plenty of doors that can open in prison open a door means create by your Sovereign Divine act an opportunity where the gospel can be spoken fruitfully so that's what he asked for [06:00]

remember that phrase from chapter one I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you to make the word of God fully known the mystery so word of God called now the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to the Saints to them God chose to make no how great among the Gentiles are the riches [07:29]

I want to speak this mystery in the open door that God flings wide for me pray it open pray that God would ask act not just let it happen but make it happen that's the way we need to talk God make a door open blow it open don't just let it open on account of which I am bound so he he knows that this prisonment this chains are because [08:28]

and I want more opportunities to risk my life in this way that's so contrary to human nature you got to have prayer to press on with the ministry like that and then he adds one more thing that I may make it clear which is how I ought to speak what does that mean it means thinking back to the previous paragraph no man pleasing [09:16]

I'm not going to cut Corners I'm not going to water it down I'm not going to obscure the truth I'm going to make it really clear just like it is and if Romans and Jewish people don't like it then I will probably wind up in prison again again but I'm going to speak it as I ought to speak it which is clear which is why I need prayer [10:57]

pray for me these these four things number one pray for an Open Door a situation in which the gospel can be preached fruitfully pray that in that open door I would speak pray that as I speak I would make I would I would speak the mystery of the glories of Christ the treasures of Christ and pray that it would be crystal clear [12:24]

oh how amazing it is that we are called every one of us are called into to partnership with the spread of the Gospel in this way don't ever sell prayer short as a means by which amazing things happen in this world through the ministry of the word [12:24]
