When God calls you to build, stay focused. Don't come down for distractions, pressure, or fear. [00:01:39]

By the time we get here in Nehemiah chapter 6, the walls around Jerusalem are almost done. Only the gates remain to be set in place. But just as the physical work is wrapping up, the pressure intensifies. These dudes who are enemies, Sanbalat, Tobiah, and the rest of the opposition, switch tactics. Instead of threatening violence, they start to use manipulation. And manipulation can be so subtle. You don't even know you're being manipulated. [00:02:24]

The enemy's goal is simple. Get Nehemiah to stop what he's doing. In the ancient world, completed walls were a sign of strength. Remember, Nehemiah had been notified that the walls had been completely torn down. They were, they were, the city of Jerusalem was in ruins and he wept for days and went and asked the king, let me go build it. Let me build it back. And he was almost done. These walls were a sign of strength, stability, security. A half -finished wall invited an attack. [00:03:23]

So his ability to stay no to the wrong things helped him accomplish what God had called him to do. [00:04:06]

The enemy tries to distract us. When they see us doing the thing that God has called us to do, the enemy will try to distract us with whatever the enemy knows it can distract us with. [00:04:17]

Nehemiah says, I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. [00:06:02]

Remember, the enemy does not need to destroy you if he can distract you. You don't need to be destroyed. You just need to be distracted. Because God created us for a purpose with a thing to do. [00:07:36]

God's call to us is to stay focused. Not every invitation that you are given deserves your time. You don't have to do everything that you are invited to do. [00:10:20]

Secondly, the enemy tries to discredit. Look at Nehemiah chapter 6 starting in verse 5. In the same way, Sanballat, for the fifth time, sent me his servant. To open with an open letter in his hand, it was written. It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel. That is why you are building the wall. And according to these reports, you wish to become their king. And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem. There is a king in Judah, and now the king will hear of these reports. So now come and let us take counsel together. Then I sent him saying, No such thing as you say has been done. You are inventing them out of your own mind. [00:10:52]

Do not let the enemy make you afraid to follow what God has clearly called you to do. If God has called you to do something, and you know he's called you to do something, do not let fear keep you from doing it. [00:14:18]

Let your integrity speak louder than any accusation that may be leveled against you and keep building. [00:15:05]

Number three, the enemy tries to intimidate when distraction doesn't work, when discrediting you doesn't work. The intensity will come up. [00:15:12]

Not every voice claiming to speak for God is from God. Let me say that again. Not every voice claiming to speak for God is from God. [00:17:28]

God will never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever tell someone or tell you to do something that is contrary to his word. Test everything that you believe comes to you from God by his word. [00:18:27]

God does not care about whether or not you are happy. He doesn't. Now, following God results oftentimes in happiness and joy and peace. But God wants your obedience. The Bible says to obey is better than to sacrifice. [00:19:25]

But the joy that comes from serving the Lord and following him is greater than any happiness happiness that you might feel over getting your way for this short season of time. [00:20:23]

And it's the same way when we have a relationship with God, when we spend time with God, when we pray and spend time in prayer, when we read his word, when we fellowship with his other children, we know his voice. [00:22:12]

When you are so in love with God and you're so entwined in your relationship with God you know his voice and you will not be distracted when people say well the Lord told me no he didn't go sit down. [00:23:18]

Finally our fourth point the wall is finished because Nehemiah did not quit. He didn't quit. [00:23:37]

God has not called us to be quitters. He's called us to finish the race. The Apostle Paul said I don't count myself to as apprehended. All these things that I've done all these accolades that I've received I don't count them as anything but this one thing I do I strive for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus that I may finish the race that he may say to me well done thou good and faithful servant. [00:25:30]

They accomplished much because God was in it and God helped them get into and do the work that he called them to do. [00:26:25]

His focus was faithfulness and that's what made the difference. [00:26:54]

God has called this church to build his kingdom here. He has a plan for you to build his kingdom here. He's called you to be disciples to disciple other people. He's called you to serve in the society in the community to do hard things. And as you do those things as you're faithful and true as you hear his voice and you submit to his will and are obedient to him he will grow this church. [00:27:14]

My challenge for you this morning God's call for you this morning God is speaking through me here's God telling you do not give up if you haven't started it's okay start now forget the things that have happened before it doesn't matter you can't live in the past there's no sense dwelling on the past today listen to God be obedient to God find out what God has for you to do start the work stay faithful to the work and complete the work because the Bible says he who began a work in you it will be faithful to complete it. [00:30:05]

If God can use him and call him a friend and forgive him and redeem him from all the things that he did wrong and I'm just giving you like that one situation where he blew it God can use you and God can use me never give up never give up never ever ever ever ever give up. [00:33:17]
