Stay Ready for Christ’s Unexpected Return

Matthew 24 puts the question right in front of the disciples: not whether Christ will return, but whether His people will be ready when He does. Jesus says the day and hour belong to the Father alone. Not the angels, not even the Son in His earthly mission, but the Father knows. The return of Christ is certain, but the timing is not available for anybody to put on a calendar.

The days of Noah give the picture. Noah built because God said build. The people around him kept eating, drinking, marrying, and carrying on like life would always keep moving just like it had been. The rain did not wait for them to get their business fixed. The flood came, and those outside the ark found out too late that God meant exactly what He said.

The call is to stay ready so there will be no need to get ready. A firefighter does not wait for the alarm to find a helmet. A military unit on standby does not wait for the red phone to ring before packing bags and loading equipment. Readiness comes before the emergency. Faith does not start obeying when the rain begins to fall. Faith obeys because God has spoken.

God’s people cannot make God an option while expecting God to make them a priority. Free will does not remove God’s authority, and God will have the final judgment concerning every life. The Bible is the guidebook for living, and nobody can claim to have followed the instructions while leaving a bag full of parts unopened. Right cannot be called wrong, and wrong cannot be called right, simply because the world has made everything acceptable.

Christ gives more than commands. The Holy Spirit empowers those who confess Jesus as Lord, and grace meets those who fall down, repent, get back up, and get back on track. Noah’s family was saved because they entered the ark under God’s word. Christ’s people must live under that same covering, trusting God when life is good and when life turns around.

Jesus will crack the sky, the trumpet will sound, and those who died in Christ will rise first. That moment will not leave time to make last-minute peace with God or neighbor. The call is urgent: love God with all the mind, soul, and being, love the neighbor, get life in order now, and stand ready to say, “Lord, here am I.”
