Don't Let Isolation Sabotage Your Faith: Stay Connected

God is the giver of breath, the creator of man, the Alpha and Omega, and the only one worthy of praise. The call of the Word comes as a lamp to the feet and a light to the path, exposing the enemy’s playbook and showing how Satan works through sabotage. The battle is not against flesh and blood, because people may become the battlefield, but people are never the enemy. The enemy works through lies about God, lies about the self, and lies about others, and those lies become tools of division.

The strategy of “divide and conquer” shows up most clearly in isolation. The enemy cannot steal salvation, so he tries to disconnect believers from the very relationships God designed to strengthen them. God designed believers to grow together, fight together, worship together, and stand together. Satan wants the church fighting against one another, but God calls the church to fight for one another.

Elijah’s story in 1 Kings 18 and 19 shows how spiritual victory is often followed by spiritual vulnerability. Mount Carmel stands as one of the greatest showdowns in Scripture. The prophets of Baal cry, cut themselves, and get no answer, but Elijah calls on the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and fire falls from heaven. Yet after that great victory, one threat from Jezebel sends Elijah running for his life.

Elijah leaves his servant, goes into the wilderness, sits under a broom bush, and asks God to take his life. Isolation distorts reality so badly that Elijah says, “I am the only one left,” even though God has reserved 7,000 who have not bowed to Baal. Discouragement replays the same false narrative over and over until a temporary feeling starts sounding like permanent truth.

God does not slap Elijah around in his weakness. God feeds him, lets him rest, feeds him again, speaks truth, gives him purpose, and sends Elisha to walk with him. God restores people through his presence and his people.

Satan’s isolation is a counterfeit of God’s separation. Satan separates to destroy, but God separates to strengthen, distinguish, and deliver. God calls his people out from the world, not to stop caring about lost people, but to protect and mature his children. God often gives victory little by little, one battle, one step, one act of faith at a time. There is still land to possess, so the word of the Lord is simple: don’t quit.
